It sure looks like someone installed the drive backward as the logo is also on the underside... my vote is *****.

IIRC there was a ratchet that had the selector on the drive side, but I think that particular one is just backwards.

Also notice how it doesnt work. I wonder if that has something to do with it being assembled incorrectly.

Assembled backwards, probably when rebuilt. I have 2 older 1/4 70 series ratchets, one that way, one the other. it does give you a fractional amount less headroom required, but can't imagine that being a deal breaker in general. I'd also guess less chance of flipping the lever in use. (which has happened tome on every form of ratchet switch I think...)

But for that Eprey posting:

I guess its like saying raised white letter tires are rare...just depends on which way you put them on.

You can switch the gear around in quite a few ratchets. I know you can with the older Craftsman box head ratchets and I believe you can with the standard Proto ratchet as well.

My dad had a Proto 1/2" ratchet that was like that, he later gave me the ratchet. I always thought it was unique because the selector lever is on the same side as the drive. Then I saw pictures of other Proto ratchets on sites like this and was like, Oh yeah, that makes sense, so I took it apart and flipped the drive gear over, Much better, LOL!
