I just crawled under my truck to change the oil and came across this. That is where the core support it bolted to the frame. I checked it over before I bought it and it appeared sound everywhere else. There is only one major rust spot on the body. Can a core support be changed? I also noticed the bottom of the engine and trans a wet. Thanks for any help

Core support is a bolt on item. You may be able to find a rust free one in a salvage yard, but most will look like yours. Reproductions are likely available through LMC trucks, or other outlets. Check around, as prices are all over the place. Truck is old enough that Ford likely doesn't have those anymore, but worth a check. At least get the Ford part number from your dealer so you can do some google searches

I would check with Ford first. I just changed the core support in my 90 Chevy and GM had one in stock for less than $200.00. You might get lucky.

Fixable, but it's a pain in the ***. You have to disassemble the front end by bolt and nut.

It's a common rusting item on older Fords. You may luck out in a junkyard but don't hold your breath. LMC may has them, but at typical import quality. OEM replacements may be expensive.

You will have to torch the large bolts off. No ways about it.

Thanks guys, I'm heading to the junkyard tomorrow to take a look, it does appear to have to many large bolts but I will take a propane torch and a breaker bar with a pipe. Should I be worried about the oil leak.

Should I be worried about the oil leak.

The short answer is yes. The first two potential sources are 1) a bad main oil seal and 2) valve cover gaskets.

Before you replace the support I'd clean every thing underneath as well as possible. Gunk engine cleaner, Simple Green, Purple Power or whatever is your favorite cleaner. Let sit for 30 min or so then pressure wash it where you will not cause a mess.

Ive changed a few, I know with the diesel size radiator at least, its hard to find one that isn't cracked. Inspect closely.
