Is this HF Framing nailer decent?

I am going to be putting a bathroom in the basement and a few other things that I will need/want a framing nailer for. As usual I'd like to stay as low/cheap on the money as possible but get something decent. I won't be using it a lot. So I was wondering with a %20 off coupon if this HB nailer is decent or just a piece of junk?
Thanks.

I hope so, Its the one I own...!!!
I used it to frame up my basement office. I don't have thousands of nails through it. But for the few hundred I shot it worked fine.

For the money it is pretty good. I picked one up a couple of years ago with a coupon and it was cheap but I can't remember how much I paid. I framed a shed and it did a decent job. It is heavy but for the weekend DIY guy that has not yet hit the lottery it is a good deal. I had a few nails that I needed to drive home with a hammer but that may have been operator error.

I have used it and found it pretty irritating. Too much variance in the depth of shot.

That tool has a 1 year replacement out the box and at the sale price. you can get a 2 year replace ESP for $19.99. With the 20% coupon, you are still under sale price for that tool and you have a total of 3 years of protection. Then, if something does happen to that tool, its only $19.99 after the swap for 2 more years plus the 1 year you get with the new tool.

sale price 109.99
20%off 21.99
total 87.99
esp cost 19.99
grand total 107.98 + tax.

ontario can
find a good used bostitch or paslode and save yourself a pile of headaches
let alone finding the right angle or nails and whether it needs wire collated or paper collated nails.
brand name nailers are easier to find nails for
i bought a used bostitch fw28 to frame my basement paid $125.00 can for it

I don't agree with the part about finding nails. The only type I've had trouble finding locally are the 28 degree paper taped nails, but you can get them from HF. Menards and Lowes both have a great selection of nails, but you have to know the size and angle you want.

Just a word about nails, Clipped head no longer meet code in most areas, the HF that I bought last were clipped.

This is some interesting information, which I gratefully appreciate. I am just truly a virgin when it comes to framing nailers and have never owned or fired one. Maybe I should look for a used one. Let me see what Craigs List has to offer real quick.

I looked hard at the HF nailers and ended up buying a refurbed Porter-Cable framer. It's not a Passlode, but it'll plant the hell out of those nails. Good gun and I only paid about $120 for it.

I used a HF 18 gauge trim nailer for a while. It got to where it failed to fire all the time. Decent gun for $20, but iffy triggering. I paid dear for a 15 gauge Craftsman trim nailer and an 18 gauge Craftsman, but they work like dogs.

I'm not sure who on here said it on another thread but buy your nailer according to what is available as far as nails. I bought an hf 28* nailer but went to my local box stores and found more nails for different degree nailers at a better price. Here I have the most options with 21* or whatever the Porter Cable nailer is degreed with.

I almost bought a paslode nailer but didn't pull the trigger because I found their nails the most expensive. I haven't completely ruled it out but as for now I'm still trying to find a PC FR350.

Good point, I didn't consider that.

Thanks Mike.
This is my first ever Senco device I have bought.
I was amazed at how easy it is to fire a 3" nail into 2x4's!!!!
The time difference from a hammer to a nail gun is unbelievable!

Their customer service is top notch too. In short, I called them asking for a replacement part. Service rep asked if I had registered my product, to which I said no. He requested that I register it online and would send me the part for FREE! How's that for customer service?!?!

I have several of their finish nailers, no framing nailer as I have no use for one... yet. All of them have worked flawlessly.

I've used cheapie and Hitachi nailers, and honestly there is a world of difference between the cheap and expensive ones. The Hitachi weighs what must be 1/2 or less of the cheapie. Both fire nails but for building houses (I volunteer for Habitat for Humanity) I really like that Hitachi. For small jobs it wouldn't make much of a difference however.

Senco used to have the best customer service, as long as you are buying nails or staples you could bring in Senco guns and they would keep them working perfectly.

Best thing about a nailer or staple gun, is that you have a free hand to arrange the stuff you want nailed, so stuff goes together much much faster.

Its worth bearing in mind that those nails can be deflected quite easily and I've seen them bend right round and come back almost to the end of the gun before.

Consequently I make sure the hand that's holding the wood is always further away from the end of the gun ( in any direction) than the length of the nail.

That goes for first fix framing nailers and second fix pin guns alike.

Thanks for all the info guys. I am really happy with it. I printed out the instructions and need to read up on it also. It says to put 6 drops of oil in it and stuff, which I didn't know to put that much in it. I also need to figure out how to set the counter sink on it. That thing is just so powerful!!!
I was using it at 100psi, is that what you guys recommend?
I was driving it nails into 2x4's. I am just afraid to give it to much PSI.
And 100psi worked fine.

My nephew is here remodeling our bathroom and is using that exact nailer, he says he has used it for awhile and it works well. He used my bBstitch and agreed that it is not quite as good as the brand name but says it works good if you did not have the ability to compare it with any other.

I have the Campbell Hausfield version of that tool.

200+' of Fence, basement, Floating dock, 10x16 Board and Batten Shed, Outdoor stairs

Works fine for me. Been through 2 of the big boxes of nails. (?3500 nails per box?)

I bought a used paslode f350 from ebay for 115. All the big box stores carry the nails. Works great.

I know that Paslode is always a good name in this field. I just would never be able to find any in my budget. Looks like you got a great deal on it though.
