Is this Mac tools air ratchet worth trying to fix? Found it in a vintage craftsman tool box I picked up yesterday for $40. Looks like the top is slip/cracked. I don't think it's supposed to be split.

nope, cost will outweigh what it's worth. your also missing the yoke, the head kit, the driveshaft is probably missing, plus the split head. throw in a set of vanes, etc you'd be better off buying a new one.

That's what I was thinking.
Maybe I'll throw it on eBay for parts seekers.

I sold a box full of complete but not working air ratchets (MAC, Craftsman, Sioux, CP, etc.) and there was very little money to be made. Don't expect to make anything more than would cover shipping on eBay.

Yeah I noticed there is not much market for broken air tools. If I make a few bucks to buy a coffee and get this thing out of my garage, I'm happy. Better than going in the dumpster.

Could you repurpose it? I don't know how fast the shaft spins so I don't know what it would be ideal for but may be able to find some uses with a drill chuck welded on it. May not be worth the trouble though.

Would make a sweet shifter lever but not too comfy.

Re-Purpose as a TROUBLE LIGHT . . . . attach bulb assembly & hood to top and run wire through body of the air ratchet. Make it really cool with some McGyver skills of integrating the on/off switch in the squeeze part of the air ratchet !! :rocker:

Cool idea. I have a Mac 1/4" air ratchet that needs a rebuild. (It works, just weak). I can't seem to find someone who will give me $15 for it. Maybe I'll do this. I can't bring myself to throw away such nice Al/steel.
