I would say that is probably about what it is worth. Not a awesome deal but not getting ripped off either.

The handle on those feel like you are holding a file. I prefer a smooth finish.

The primary issues I see with these; the screws back out and the gears get destroyed, be prepared to get them rebuilt often.

Has anyone tried to locktite the screws?
Ive never had a issue with my Screws backing out, Currently own and use a 1/4 and 3/8 Drive Ratchet (Im a Part timer, Not a Daily Wrencher). RestAssured if i did have that Problem i would try Loctite before i continued to let the Plate back off and eat gears.

I got a 1/2 inch drive for free, found it while cleaning out a swaggers engine bay, it has a little rust (cleaned up ad turned black now) but I thought it was a good working find, I think I have only used it once when I needed a short handle 1/2 inch drive

i wouldnt give $0.24 for a mac ratchet.
everyone i've ever had has had the screws fall out, strip gears, even after being "rebuilt" numerous times by the dealer ( it didnt matter what dealer rebuilt it)
it never lasted for more than a couple days.
i tossed a couple of them in the scrap bucket

I'd say $24 is a fair price but not a great deal. I've never liked the feel of the handle but have never owned one, so can't say how they hold up.

@ the OP... Pass it buy and spend the money on a 80 series Snap-on. You can find one on ebay for $24 or less.
I prefer a textured handle over something smooth; easy to hold one to when it gets covered in oil and grease. Also, the 30 tooth design is tough as nails and wears really nice.
With that being said, does anybody have an idea how one is rebuilt?? After I took the (3) screws out, everything seems to be fixed in. My only idea left is to take a punch to where the selector lever was.

These are good tough little ratchets. Mac has been selling them for decades. Rebuilding them is fairly easy. 3 screws are all there is to it. I had to tap the drive end on the workbench to get the cover to pop loose, other than that it was fairly easy to swap out the parts. It helps if you have a small flat tool to hold the ball bearing and spring down while you install the pawl. I usually take a piece of 10 or 12 ga copper wire and flatten one end of it and then bend it into an L shape to use as a tool. It holds the ball bearing fine until you have everything back in place.
Around $20-$25 is usually about the going used price for these. Rebuild kits are still avaliable and fit both the XR8 and the XR8K models, as well as some other models of Mac ratchets.
