So picked up abfree Makita cutoff saw from work. They said it didnt work. Pulled thencover off the motor and I see this. Appears to be some burnt and bare wires.

Does this look like the morot is shot? Repairable or replaceable?

Toast. Someone let the smoke out. You can only do that once.

New armature will run you ~$150 for OEM. Plenty of good OEM part sites around. Here's a good one I've used:

Try to see what model yours is and if parts are available. Good, cheap, option may be to find your local authorized repair shop and see if they have a same model with a good motor you can buy. I've done that a time or two on drills that we're dropped and a Milwaukee chop saw with a cracked cast base...saved me lots of $$$.

It’s a Makita 2414b. Parts warehouse has it for 83.32. Cheaper than a new saw I guess. Looks like th LW1401 is the replacement that is $187. 100 bucks difference. Seems worth a shot
Thanks!

I had one like that. Considered ordering a new armature and rebuilding it, but a closer examination showed that the bevel gears were worn pretty badly.

I posted it on Craigslist as a free parts saw and ended up donating it to the local high school shop teacher. One of the kids dropped their saw so he was looking for a good frame.

You can get a Milwaukee 14 inch, 6177-20 for ~$140+ shipping online (look under Google shopping tab) or a DeWalt 14 inch, D28715 for ~$193 on Amazon Prime. Both are good machines that will last a long time. Plenty of other good ones out there for under $200 as well.
