I'm a sucker for restos, but this seems like a charity case. The handles have been poorly welded back on who know how many times, the drawers are as even as your odds at the casino, and I'm sure it probably needs four new castors unlike the one mentioned. This doesn't even touch on what it will look like after media blasting. It's the embossed snap-on that has me all gooey inside to save it.

I've never resto'd a toolbox, but have just about everything at my disposal to do it right. Anyone know what color this gem once was? It also looks like it's missing at least one drawer in the bottom shelf going by the rails. Decisions, decisions, decisions:dunno:!!!?

The bones look decent. The handles are rough. Don't know what the rest of your shop looks like but there is a part of me that would be tempted to just take the loose rust and dirt off, lube the drawers, and preserve it as-is. Give it a good coat of clear sealer or wax and call it a day. It would just be 'that box' in the corner. Find a similar old top box or old grinder, or something to go on top. Otherwise, if you have time on your hands, restore away. At that price anyway, what have you got to loose?

Yeah, I will be watching how this one goes. This box is just about as close as you could get to symbolize my dad's bodyshop. He is 74 and still pounds fenders five days a week. It would fit PERFECTLY in his shop.

You guys have more time on your hands than I do.
I would not take that box if it were free and delivered to my door.
The drawers are bent, It is missing the bottom cover and it is not worth the price of pain in my book. Then again what the hell do I know. If I were going to restore it I would not pay more then $10 for someone to take it off my hands so I wouldn't have to spend time with it. LOL

WHY, WHY, WHY. Did is wisper in you ear "Take me home you **** thing?"
I picked up a 9 drawer base the other day. It is all ball berring and was in mint condition. It was only $75. That old box is not worth the san to blast it or the puddy, primer or paint.

Anything can be fixed if you're willing to put time and money into it. That box has been around the block a few times. It's no worse than the $50 John Deere I just picked up. I think I'll have more in one tire than what the tractors worth. If it is repaired it could be a good looking item. You can get a bottom cover made. What's bad is the handles look to be welded, and welded crooked. Finding some original looking handles or getting some original looking handles made will be the tough part.

If you get it, show it off.

X2, I'm also a sucker for old tool boxes with patina; usually buy them wherever/whenever and thus have about 25-30 of them.

Having said that, this one is more like a charity case with oozing STDs. IMHO, it would take way, way more work and expense than it would be worth when finished. Your opinions may vary.

It's a 60 YO ****** that retired yesterday looking to change her life around. I am on the fence as to whether I'm gonna pass this harlett on by or not.

As for the expense, really not out of pocket per se, but I still need to use some of my costly consumeables/products to get her back to some sort of former glory. For example, I have the paint, primer, "PUDDY", media (for blasting), welder, plasma, castors etc. etc. to get going. Whether I want to dedicate the time is going to be the real decider if I want to pull the trigger or not. I have a 1972 Toyota Landcruiser currently enroute from NC to my pop's bodyshop in Philly as we speak.

Coming on here asking if you should buy a toolbox or tool is like going to a ***** house and asking if *** is alright.

but for 50 bucks. I'd probably wait it out. Send the guy a message saying that you'll pay 25 if it doesn't sell at it's current amount. But, it depends on how much it means to you to own it. It's only money.

That said, it doesn't look terrible. If i saw it at a yard sale or flee market, i'd buy it. Probably even pay the 50 ha ha. anything can be fixed and like it's been said, I don't see any rot.

You are one of the worst things to happen to this forum recently. Does it make you feel better about your lot in life when you constantly **** on every thread you post in?

Your posts says a lot about you.
