In my community we have what the mayor calls a deer problem. They figure we have one deer per 40 homes. A very vocal minority has put pressure on council to cull the deer. They agreed. The means they will use is far from humane and brutal. I along with many others are very upset and are trying to convince the mayor to change his mind. This is a link showing the procedure and it is disturbing. If I could get a bunch of members to write council it might help. Let me know if I can post this.
Thanks.

I think this is post-able. I have no problems with hunting, however there is no "sport" in this style of hunting. Not much difference than solitary for a night with a funeral in the morning. Methods like increased limits and season lengths should be tried, imho, before tax payer money goes to funding shooting caged animals. Are there any more articles which relate to this issue in ur area?

We had a deer cull in a metro park a couple of years ago. I think it was done by "pros" with bow and arrow or cross bow.

The area around Rochester, MI has the highest deer car accident ratio of anywhere in MI, an probably the US. Mild winters and people feeding them all winter plus still enough habitat to support the herd.

BTW, I saw some videos of a park where they did NOT cull the herd when it got out of hand. Every blade of grass, every bush and tree bark and branches under 6' were stripped. Then they the starvation started ! That was ugly !!!

Thanks. This is very close to my heart. I had two fawns born in my yard last year. The method of killing as shown in my link does not discriminate gender or age of the deer. It could be an old buck or a two month old fawn. As I wrote I do not hunt but a bullet into an unsuspecting deer is a lot better than squashing it down in a steel cage and holding it by the head to drive a bolt in.
I may be able to dig up a link to the newspaper story and would include email addresses for council. Finally where can I post this?

Why not just let huters take care of the problem? I know Philadelphia had a lottery and only experienced archery hunters were allowed to hunt in some parks. No guns and you had to be proficient with bow skills. I hope they do not waste the meat, that would be even worse....:headscrat

Not my decision. They want to butcher the animals and give the meat to the Indians. Again its not the cull, its the way it is done. Check the link if you haven't already. Not humane but downright cruel.
