Nice vintage box. I'm not up on prices but if you want a good box to work out of it's not a bad deal. Keys ? Drawers all slide nice ?

We've had threads on that one and some of the recommended prices were lower than $800. If it's 100% structurally sound and all drawer slides work and doesn't need repainting, it might approach that amount. But 40 year old (set of) boxes don't tend to be without fault. Good luck with the price. lol.

No IMHO, and seeing as how it has been listed over a month, sounds like your local market agrees.

Late 80's KR537/557 33" wide, 18" deep. It's a nice box but the market, especially at that price and condition is very limited. I guess the seller hasn't figured that out yet. I'd check it out for ~$500 ish. It looks a bit rough in places.

I was looking at identical top boxes only for the back of my truck. Most of what I found was around $350 in good to very good condition. I could see the bottom being worth between $400-$450 in good to very good condition. I think he is pretty close on his price. If you could get the pair for $700-$750 it would be fair.

Now since I really can't tell the condition via the pic I would say this; if there is any rust, major dings or scrapes the price should be lower. The prices I listed above were for really good condition stuff. If this is avg I would pay no more than $600. I see something on the drawer, but can't tell what it is. Tell him $600 if you really want it. It's been on there for a while. Those top boxes are pretty desirable.

Those SO emblems do not jive with his 1972 production date. Why not check it out in person. Look at the back for actual build date and then talk price. I'd bet showing up and bringing some benjamins would put that in your garage under $800.

Looks very nice from where I'm sitting.

I have that set, mine are ugly and repainted thought. I wouldn't pay more than $500-600 but I'm cheap.

At the swap meet on Sunday I saw the top for $300 in really, really nice condition.

Thanks guys & those logos are newer but if you look to the right on the bottom a old logo is on there, this guy will never sell this toolbox, I don't need toolboxes but if I can get something cheap I always look into it. This guy just thinks because its Snap-On that he's got a goldmine here lol

Again Thanks for all the help

I have that exact top box and two bottoms. The set I bought 15yrs ago from a snap on dealer for $1000, I bought the second lower box 5yrs ago for $200. I like the size, and style, I just wish they had stronger, smoother drawer slides. If you lean on an open drawer you can fairly easily bend a slide, then you're stuck with an even stiffer drawer to open. An upgrade to roller slides would be very welcome. This box and condition seem pretty nice, minor patina. I wonder why he doesn't pull it out from the wall to show the small door closed to cover the small drawers? Lazy I guess? Maybe he really doesn't want to sell

Id flag it then...... this guy sounds like an idiot if hes making comments like that. Ive sold tons of stuff on craigslist and never acted like that. if he lists it for his bottom dollar he clearly has no idea how the CL game is played. you list things for a 100 or 2 higher then your bottom so people can think they are master negotiators when they get you to come down but really you are because you got your real price. give the buyer the warm fuzzes and you as well. its not rocket science.....

4 sail a toole box dat is red.... Snapon 1972 model......

Hello Seller.. I am interested in your tool boxes; but have a few questions:

What are the model numbers stamped on the back side?
Do you have the keys?
Are these friction or ball bearing slides?
What are the height, width, and depth dimensions of the two boxes?
Are there drawer liners included?
Do all the drawers, casters and locks work properly?
Is there any rust, broken welds, or dents?
Is there anything missing?

Dern key strokes are Too expensive to put in da ad?????? :dunno:

Snowball effect. Craigslist is more of an exercise in human psychology than business tactics.

Is it? Yes. Should you pay that? No. Offer him $650 and tell him you really dont need it, but might regret not buying later.

Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Willing to pay is a function of local market and how fast someone wants to get rid of something. The seller is really not interested in selling the box. The ad come across to me as a "if someone is willing to go this high sure, but nothing less or I will keep it" type deal. So I ask you, why do you say it is "worth" that?

I saw that too, and thought it was a bid odd. I still want to say it is a mid to late 80's box, unless someone went to the trouble of adding all the drawer trim. The top box looks consistenet with a mid to late 80's 537 though.

Why is it worth that? Because:

1. It's a Snap On box, a vintage one in fantastic shape.
2. It's unique, don't really see too many of them around anymore.
3. Old boxes in good condition are more valuable than brand new boxes imo, you can really see the difference in how solid they are, they were genuinely built to last instead of built to warranty. The only thing I prefer in new boxes are the drawers.

Just my two pennies though. Make of them what you will.

1. That is not in fantastic shape, parts are getting very scarce, most are no longer available.
2. That is a VERY common model(s)
3. Not those, the market is very limited, very few people on the whole appreciate a friction slide box.
4. Honestly a HF box would probably get a guy further in the end.

Don't get me wrong I fully appreciate the older boxes, but also take a realistic approach as to what they are and their limitations.

IMHO
the price he's asking is at the upper end

as zkling mentioned, the drawer trim wasnt from the 70's.

wonder if the bottom is an older model with the trim added, and the top is much newer?

That is a good point. What is confusing is from the poor pics it looks like each badge is in a correct location for the respective style of badge. :dunno:

I wonder what the bottom drawer is, I believe the mid to late 80's had a ball bearing bottom drawer.

I didn't look at the 2nd pic where it showed the rust.

Spaghettios? Seriously? This guy I swear, what a ****, the funny thing is I found another toolbox, top, bottom & side cabinet for $40 that im going to pick up tonight. That guy can keep his toolbox & his crappy pinstripes, I mean the way the ad is written it seems he thinks that they add value lol because the box was pinstriped around 1972, years before it was made, how is this possible? Its the spaghettios model!

I would give $400
$500 if I really wanted it.
I have that set and love it. I also have 4 more of the bottoms.
The last bottom I picked up was $275
