Is this Snap-on's new policy?

I have a broken socket and gave it to my Snap-on guy. He didn't have one on the truck and told me to either call Snap-on or go to their website and request a replacement. I thought is was the dealers' responsibility to replace the socket and not mine to get it from corporate. Same thing happened when I needed to buy a battery with cash in hand. He wants me to go to the website and buy it there instead of him getting it for me. I even offered to pay for it up front. I've been buying Snap-on tools since 1974 and this is the first (and second) time it has happened. Time to find another Snap-on truck to spend my money with.

You answered your own question. This is an issue with you local guy and has nothing to do with snap on corporate policy.

It is time to find another dealer. I have no problem ordering a socket for warranty purposes. Also, I would of been glad to take your money for a battery.

Next time he walks in your shop tell him to get the F away from you. Another dealer may not be able to come into his zone but it doesn't mean you can't go into another dealers zone. Most dealers will welcome your business with open arms

Thanks for the replies. That's what I figured, it is my dealer not corporate. I'll have to look for the business card from the dealer I've dealt with for 15 years before changing jobs. It will have to wait until Daytona is over......

I got a snap on guy in my district, or however they have it seperated, and he is the same way! He acts like the warranty is taking food off his table or something

Find out who the regional manager is and report this guy. Simply put, your dealer SUX. That's how companies get a bad reputation. BAD PEOPLE

I thought one of the reason you bought from snap on was the convienence of having them take care of things, such as warranty tools.

When i got to sears to warranty stuff they don't me, well we're out of 10mm sockets call corporate.

Its crazy the stories i heard of snap on dealers not warrantying tools not bought from them or bought second hand, can you imagine if sears starting going "I don't remember you shopping here before or buying anything from me" and saying no to warranty.

Report that ******* A.S.A.F.P. A truck dealer should never tell you go to elsewhere for their brand. If he doesn't have it, he's obligated to get it for his customer. My Snap on man went through the trouble of hunting down a rebuild kit that technically doesn't exist anymore for one of my old Snappy ratchets. Took him a while, but he put a lot of effort into it and brought it to me immediately as soon as he got his hands on it. That's the kind of dealer you want.

PS- I love Grand Nationals.

Most likely he is cut off from snap on and cant order anything until he pays them. He probably doesn't want to admit this or make you wait forever so is telling you to go to the website.

The type of business I work in I'm supposed to order everything through the website, but I prefer to deal with the truck, and the guy who stops at the auto body shop across the street is happy to order stuff for me. Find a new dealer.

Like "joshthedieseltech" said, part of what you are paying for is the convenience and service. Why should YOU have to drive to another dealer to have a tool replaced. Seems a bit ridiculous.

I would have said, "ok, guess I may as well start buying from corporate too then."

wonder if the OP wanted to buy a new CT6850HO but didn't have one on the truck if he would tell him to call snap on or order online too.

:+1:
I would bet my paycheck that this is the case. Bet his inventory starts dwindling and he just vanishes someday soon.

Yeah I have a dealer who won't answer my calls about a warranty. So I just called corporate and had a rebuild kit in a few days.

Technically I don't have a dealer in my area, he just works in the next town over (40ish miles) and makes rounds here.

This is why we do not buy from our local dealer anymore. He is out quite a bit of money from our business because he is a douche. I would rather buy online than deal with him. My friend in another dealers zone has the same issue.

What is with these guys? Do they want people to stop buying from them? I don't get it.

Just curious, but if you buy off the website, isn't the dealer for your area supposed to to get the commission anyway?

Unless you have gone to that dealers website and registered as one of his customers, he does not get credit for the sale. All unassigned sales go into a pool and partial commission for those sales are divided between all of the dealers.

If you want a specific dealer to get credit for your Internet purchases, contact him and get the website information from him.

My snap on man is a pain in the ***. He shows me these plaques for him being a platinum dealer but yet im waiting months to get a prybar replaced. All I ever hear is "Its on back order". Its ridiclous. I figure he is cut off from snap on, its the only explanation.

The type of business I work in I'm supposed to order everything through the website, but I prefer to deal with the truck, and the guy who stops at the auto body shop across the street is happy to order stuff for me. Find a new dealer.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one like this. I'm just a tinkerer, not a professional but I like to see things up close if I can before I commit to a purchase. So one day I was out and about and I saw a snap on truck at a shop not too far from me. I stopped in and when I saw the dealer walking out to his truck I approached him and asked him about a socket that I wanted to purchase. He didn't have it in stock but gladly ordered it for me. We shot the bull for 2 or 3 minutes and he gave me a catalog on my way out in case there was anything else I might need. Well I brought the catalog in to work the next day for some of the other guys in the office to look at. Another guy wanted a few things too. So when I met the Snap On guy at the same shop to purchase my socket, I picked up some extra stuff and picked up the stuff that my coworker wanted too. Everyone was happy and I felt much better than just ordering something on line. It's good to know that I'm not the only amateur that likes to buy where the pros buy when I can.

It is a good feeling, but only if the truck guy is decent to deal with. There have been more and more threads posted where the dealers are being a-holes and not customer friendly. Good to hear there are still decent guys left out there to deal with!

On a side note, the Mac guy that we deal with is a stand up guy. Good customer service skills.

This thread got me to thinking about an issue I have had recently. I have an S711A ratchet. It is a 1/2" drive with the flex head. I bought it over 20 years ago and no longer work at a shop where the snap-on truck shows up but was at my buddies body shop the other day and met his snap-on dealer. Conversation turned toward my ratchet which the pin for the head will no longer stay in. Quite the pain in the **** to be working on something and have the head fall off your $100 tool. I ask what it will take to get a new pin and he said to get the ratchet to my buddy and next time he is in he will put a new pin in it. After he goes out to his truck for one of my buddies techs I told my buddy that if he was any kind of dealer he would have just gave me the pin to put in myself. To my surprise, when he returned to the shop he gave me a pin. As I looked it over I noticed it was a used pin. Thinking that it may be better than mine I took it to my shop and tried it out. You guessed it, it was as bad or worse than the one I had. What a joke!

Now for the happy ending. I logged onto Snap-On.com moments ago looking for the replacement part thinking that I would have to pay for the pin plus shipping and found out that the pin is no longer available. Just to confirm I call their customer service and the girl confirms the part is not available and then arranges to send me a new ratchet. Double bonus: the replacement is a sealed head dual 80 model ($160). To my amazement, she stated that if they wanted my old ratchet that they would email me a call tag. I confirmed with her that they would be sending the new ratchet immediately and I would not have to send the old one back until after I got the replacement. With this kind of service I may start buying from snap-on again.
