A long time ago, right after they invented dirt, the mechanic did the engineers's wife.
Ever since, the engineers have been getting even.

Does that bit actually work or does it cam out when loosening the bolt. Looks to me like they tried for a one time use thing. Once installed then fug off :(

It actually works fine loosening. I use it on a 1/2” impact with a drive reducing adaptor to blast late model 4L60/70-E bellhousing to Case bolts out and haven’t had one slip yet like the previous Torx Plus bolts they used there. It does look like **** though.

It also probably pisses off a lot a people that steal newer cars just to gut the seats out... manufacturers are doing more and more to try an keep people from messing with their products..

Time for a revolution. I'm getting damn sick and tired of being inconvenienced in the name of crime control. Punishments just aren't harsh enough to be a deterrent.

Agreed. Many mfrs are going to them for seat mounting bolts. No idea why, anyone can buy the tools online.

It's not security. It's correct assembly. Mortorq supports higher torque loads than Torx plus does, and that reduces the chances of a bolt stripping. That reduces assembly costs (it costs a lot to take a car out of the line to drill it out.). Bits last longer, too. I think the fasteners are cheaper to make too, they require fewer machining steps. They can also have heavier rust resistant coatings.

What was wrong with the tried and true 6 sided hex bolt fastener?

You can make a Mortorq(tm) fastener with a flush head. Can't do that with a hex head. Hex bolts aren't self centering, and can jam in the socket under high torque as well. They also don't carry as much torque as socket head screws can (almost any drive can out perform a hex head).

There are some other advantages (smaller heads means lighter weight). Stronger drive means higher strength screws can be used, which can be smaller saving weight, or you can use fewer of them (saves weight, and machining operations).

Mortorq is also supposed to have a lower radar profile than other screw heads, but I don't think that matters to seat bolts.
