I wouldn't touch it for $5 if it went through a fire. IMHO, it's worse that a basket case...What did the heat weaken? You never know what the heat has damaged. Just when you think you get it fixed something else will break. Unless you're looking for a boat anchor, pass on it.

Anything is rebuildable, but some aren't worth it. The problem with being in a fire is electrical and air components are almost for sure junk. Is that one all air operated or electric? If air it may be rebuildable with some new hose, valves, etc. Electrical can also be rebuildable but to me the wiring would take more work to rebuild. Also like mentioned depending on the heat temp of the fire some of the parts may be weakened. No real way to tell either until a part breaks under load. I'd take a guess at what it weighs and offer scrap value and dig into it to see if it is rebuildable or not. If not you're just out some time and gas money to take it to scrap yard.

If you're eager to do a lot of work, it might be worth looking at to determine how bad off it is. If it was just damaged by water, it might be worth it if you're looking for a project. If it was in the thick of a fire, pass.

^^^This.

Anything in that unit not made of steel is gone. You'd need to buy another machine just to replace everything that's damaged, at which point, why not just build the "parts" machine instead?

(Not that I'd EVER do anything like that - say with a car, for example... )

Hey thumper, I work on Coats stuff for a living. Don't buy. The cylinder is a sealed (welded together unit) and with that kind of heat it is likely junk. I 'm not even sure if a replacement is available but if it was it would be high dollar. Along with the other guys, steel that gets burnt is usually not the same. Just my opinion.

Pass on it bud. Those machines can be had for $100-$200 in working order only needing minor repair and paint. You can even get 40-40 machines for $300-$500
