Is This Tool Box Overloaded?

I have this used KRL1022 roller with a top box and 1 side locker. I have a lot of tools in it, but I don't know how much it weighs. If its overloaded, can you tell looking at the the casters?

my guess is yes, look at the first picture, it looks like it is compressed a lot.

Mine has a side cabinet on each end and is loaded to the max and yes it is quite heavy, but I seriously doubt that it is overloaded. I recently moved mine and had to use a rollback because it was so heavy.

Did you wrap the trunk of your car with stretch wrap?

Why not lay some 4x4 posts (or something) under the end cabinets to help lighten the load on the casters?

Load capacity for a current KRL1022 with torsion casters is 6,800 lbs. Even your older version with spring casters was rated for 4,800 lbs. I seriously doubt it's over loaded. Unless you have a 1/2 ton pickup truck in the top drawer.

Well it was overloaded, until you added the overload spring with zip tie (2nd pic).

My 1022 has the old style casters. The box is loaded heavy. At its peak, it had a kra 62c road chest on top and a cornwell locker, both on the fix caster side. The box did have a slight lean to that side as you could see the fixed side was more compressed then the swivel side. Still the box was easy to move. The locker is long gone now and the top is on another box so the box sits level. I'd only be considered truy overloaded if the bell crank on the caster actually bottom out on the floor. At that point, I bet SO would warranty the casters considering the spring has become weak. Maybe if that wouldn't solve it, they'd swap to the new style. How easy does the box move?

Looks like there's possibly something in the trunk and it's all wrapped to keep it from falling out.

It's not bottomed out, you still have spring travel. If you got the spring rate from the manufacturer, you could figure out the total weight on the casters.

Bahahaha! No but it does appear that way in the photo. The car in the background is a Lexus LS 460 L with a similar color and similar storage capacity though. I wrapped the cab in stretch wrap before I moved it into storage. I knew it would be awhile before I would be unloaded and wanted to keep it nice and tidy.

The car itself had been hit in the rear and the trunk was jacked considerably so a product called Collisionwrap was used to seal up the open areas. It's a good product with a tacky underside that adheres well but comes off with no mess and no residue left behind

Found an old catalog, confirmed the capacity is 4800 lbs

Roller box weight is 632 lbs
Top Box weight is 424 lbs
Side locker weight is 306 lbs
All added up is 1362 lbs empty

4800-1362 = 3438

I know that I'm way under 3438 lbs in tools.

I just thought that the casters would have some type of alignment mark or dimension that would indicate when it reached its maximum travel. But since I'm under the weight and the coils don't touch each other, I'm not going to worry about it. I do like that they are greasable.
