I have a Craftsman 5160 (3") machinist's vise. The general consensus here is they were made by Rock Island. According to the Sears catalogs I've found online, the age range runs between 1938 and 1942.http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1434398#post1434398

There were also certain years Reed made vises for Craftsman.

Well I bought it. The seller first said that it was 20 years old, but then he remembered it was older and he had gotten from a widow. I have not looked at it in detail, but it does not say made in USA. I think it is for how old it is.

imagine craftsman moved all their production back, and sold domestically made vises , floor jacks etc .... sigh
