VISE - Large 4 inch, Sears CRAFTSMAN, weighs 60 pounds !

Vintage 1954, With rare swivel base, see photos below

Model # 05196 - This is the more expensive "Machinist Vise", and NOT the more common "Bench Vise", it has bearings and an oil hole, see catalog description in link below

See this link, page 26, for description:

needs paint but otherwise works fine.

Bearings in the oil hole? Thats a nice sturdy vise but in my blue book for vises, its jaws would have to be near perfect for $100. Thats just one opinion.

On the high side I would go $50. It is worth $100 in my mind but market price is far below what I think these old vises are worth. If you really need a vise right away, $100 won't be wasted money.

Not meaning to be "mean" but anything is worth what you will pay for it. I have paid way over "market value" for a lot of things in my life, but if I want it.....then I have to pay for it. Balance your desire for this particular vise with what other vise is worth that much to you. If that Craftsman vise tugs at your brain ....then buy it. If you are buying it just to have a smart investment, then step back and see what else you could buy for that amount of money. For some folks getting a "deal" is the best part of a purchase. For some, it is the hunt for an item.....they love sorting....studying ads.....etc to get that one particular item. At the other end are the people who want the item...ebay...friend...garage sale...they don't care....they want that "3 handled moss covered credenza" from whatever source. Is the Craftsman worth $100 to you? It's probably not an outrageous price and as long as you won't kick yourself when a $100 Athol vise pops up on CL in the future.....go for it.

I bought the same year craftsman vise with original paint, 3 1/2 jaws for 35 bucks at a estate sale last year. the vise is worth what you will pay for it. I am happy, would I pay 100 to 200, probably not.
