Something wonky is happening with that thing judging by the handle being threaded out that far. Aside from that, the huge gears in the background lead me to believe this thing was probably beaten mercilessly for it's entire life. It's rusty too, looks like scrap metal. I'd probably pay $20 on a good day.

What make is it? Unless its something special than no not to me.

Looks like it's missing the retainer for the screw. That is why it is pulled out passed the head of the dynamic jaw. If it has good jaws and operates freely, I'd say probably $50 at most. I just sold a really clapped out newer USA Wilton for $30 about an hour after posting it on CL. So it really depends on your region. That would probably sell for $100 around here.

Unless you or the wife can get some value out of that road trip, I'd say it's not worth it.

I bet it is. Looks Like a old Craftsman to me, the Stem however may not be original because I shouldn't be chrome.

I don't think it's a USA model either, although I'm far from a vise expert.

It has the large "8" on it which some Craftsman vises did have, but so do many imports. The square anvil on the back is also often an indicator of an import. Those, plus the lack of a name on it leads me to my opinion.

No, and No, Don't drive the 50 miles and don't buy the vise. Your measly gas expense will exceed the value of that vise. Them him you will take it if he gives you $25 for your gas and time.

5" USA vise from popular brands go upward of several hundred bucks.

I'd like to know what that gear weighs!! Would make a cool base plate for a vise.
