Good vise. Should serve you well. The price in my area would dictate that it's a little high. My area would be 25-35. But if you need one, get it.

Outdoor: it's probably worth the $50 if there are not any hidden cracks or welds that we can't see. most of the guys on GJ already own a few vises so they won't pay market value unless it's one they want or need. It's definitely a better vise than what you can find new for $50 to $100.

it isn't a high end Wilton, but it is made in the US and with a quick cleaning and either paint or boiled linseed oil finish it should serve you well until you get 100+ pound one for the other side of the bench.

also don't use the ANVIL looking section on your vise to hammer on and find a small piece of RR track for that. also don't use this or most any vise as a press unless you don't care if you break it.

good luck

I wouldn't pay 50 for that particular one even if I really needed one, unless I was where they just don't exist.

I agree with most here. It's probably worth that especially when compared to what you can get for $50 new, but If you keep looking something better will come along I'd imagine.

For that kind of money you should be able to find a bigger, better vise...

I'm talking about a 45 to 75 pound American made machinist or combination vise....It won't be as pretty as that one but it will clean up nicely, and will serve you long enough to give to your grandchildren...

No, the man does not know whereof he speaks, because he does not know where the OP is at. Since I recognize that particular vise pic, I have a fair idea of where he's at, and $50 is the top end of the going rate for a vise like that in the market in question. Bigger, better vises generally go for bigger $$ in the market.

That said, I think that these two would be better choices for the OP.

The asking price on the Simplex is $100, and the Craftsman (Made in USA) is $30.

Exactly! The overall market for vises has been changing quite a bit in the last 5 years or so. Some areas have seen larger increases while others, not so much. But what that shows is there is a limited supply of older U.S made vises and greater demand for those vises, causing prices to rise. A few years ago, I could OFTEN buy that Craftsman/Columbian/Wilton vise for $12 to $15. But today they are higher around here.

Did you bother to read the qualifier?

I would love to have a smaller vise like that for my bench top. It would be a great third hand. I would offer $40 and go up accordingly. I don't dicker over $5-$10. That is a burger combo.
