I found this used vise for sale. It is a craftsman 5.5" vise in good condition.

I'm looking for a heavy duty precise vise. I'm not familiar with older craftsman vises. Is this a good HD vise?

I'd keep looking. It looks like one of the cheap Chinese made vises. It also looks like the front jaw is bent down as well.

If you're looking for a heavy duty, precise vise, that thing isn't even close. Spend some time perusing the pictures in the "Vises of Garage Journal" thread and get familiar with what's out there and the various features/designs available.

Oh, and David B is right - it's BENT :wtf:

Can you tell us more specifically why you need a heavy duty precise vise? What specifically are you going to use it on or for? Many are actually special use oriented.. some have interchangable sets of jaws for different uses etc.

FWIW,

Thanks everyone. I'll keep looking. I'm looking for a mechanics vise. 4-5" jaw n 4" throat. The Chinese one I had has tons of play in it.
