I would say offer them $80.00 bucks for it . I would also ask what materials you are planning to weld with it . Without gas all you can use it for is fluxcore wire which means you can only weld steel with it . I will add the gas kit for that welder is usually around $100.00 it is a lincoln though and would make a decent hobby welder for a beginner if you can get it cheap enough.

NO, NO, NO. The HD Lincoln welders are NOT the same as regular Lincoln welders. There's a reason the part number is a tick different, they put inferior components in them to make it more attractive to homeowners. Let's face it, a welder isn't going to HD for one.

I would pass and get a real Lincoln/miller/hobart.

i've heard some pretty damn horrid things about clarke. Sorry, I woudl stick to the big three. A good welder is a lifetime investment.

A cheap welder is several years of frustration, followed by a failure, and a lifetime investment.

A guy at work had a Clarke, he was having trouble with it, and was new to welding, and asked me to come over. I couldn't run a good bead to save my ***. One was cold, the next was hot to the point of being undercut, the next splattered like hell, all with no setting changes.

I took him to my house, handed him my miller elite, and my hh 175, and he welded his piece in a few minutes, and it looked pretty decent for a beginner.

Look at Hobart refurbs from toolking.com, probably an hh187. Good welders, great prices, still a full warranty on the refurb.

Edit: http://www.toolking.com/hobartwelders_500525a.aspx WELL worth the $100 over a clarke.

Nissan_crawler told you everything you need to know. He hit it right on the head, even with a perfect recommendation. The HH187 is what you want. The "A" grade refurb is no different than new, trust me. That is what I bought and there was not a single mark anywhere on the unit. I couldn't tell that it wasn't new except the refurb tag. GREAT welder for the money.
