I am feeding 100 amps, to a 100 amp panel in a barn approximately 150 away. The local electrical sore suggested I run 2-2-2 aluminum. I looked at a voltage drop chart and the chart said that 2-2-2 aluminum will feed 100 amps 50 feet max. Since I am going 140 feet the chart recommended to use 2/0 aluminum. I found 2/0-2/0-2/0-1 aluminum four separate wires that is a feeder for mobile homes that looked pretty good at Lowes. It is 2.08 linear foot. Lowes said it was direct burial as well. What do you guys think?

you should do actual calculation, not look at a chart listing distances. im seeing 1/0 AL to keep voltage drop under 3% with 100 amp load at 150ft. Do you have a load calculation? Do you have loads that are going to actually draw 100 amps (such as large plasma cutter and air compressor? You might be ok a size smaller. Also realize that when you upsize for voltage drop you have to proportionally increase the size of the EGC (ground) -there is a reason for this, its not some arbitrary code thing. Sometimes the ground in the cables is big enough, sometimes its not -you have to calculate it.
