If I wanted an Athol vise and it was $100 then I would consider it. For $300 I would expect a vise of that size to either be new old stock or be perfectly restored. You could buy a nicer one off ebay and have it delivered to your front door for $200.

I bought a 4 1/2" jaw Athol for $40 (or is it $45). Also bought a Parker and a smaller Athol for about $25 each. Also bought a 4 1/2 Wilton bullet for $60, 3" Wilton bullet for $35, and a damaged baby Wilton bullet for $7. Someone beak me to an 8" Reed for $100 (excellent condition).

I want to find that Flee Market!

I just scored a nice old reed No. 103 for $10 a few weeks back. Most of my vise scores are found this way. My buddy just scored me this 835 Bullet for $20 at an estate sale. Needs a jaw.

Come on Outlaw, I've seen ALOT of the "you ****" scores you've posted on the garage sale thread. Flee markets around me are where I score 60% of my deals.

I never see good deals and the bigger machinists vises except at garage and estate sales, only the little ones at "Flee Markets". Getting them that cheap is fairly rare. I watched a 4-1/2" Reed go for for $100 on Sat at an Estate sale. And most I see bolted to a bench at sales where "every thing is for sale" it turns out it's "except the vise"

The ones I find are being used as door stops for the most part!

I'm sure its different in other areas, but that's the way it is where I live... Most of the CL listing for vises and Anvils here are priced based on Eprey listings, and too many people think a homeowners exposed screw vise is the same thing as a machinist vise, "Cause it has 4-1/2" jaws! its a monster!"

I have a couple 624s, and they were 20-40 bucks each. I'd only spend 300 on a MONSTER that I just had to have for "want" sake.
