I have considered raising my roof. I have cinder block walls with trussed roof. If i could get a crane to suspend the roof while blocks were layed.....it seems easy

This guy gives me hope.

That mandoor will be a ***** now. LOL!!! Honey, make sure you shut the window!!!

As long as it's braced well, it wouldn't be a real big job. Size would be dependent on whether it is feasible or not. They move houses and other buildings daily.

This seems odd to me. Wouldn't it be easier to cut loose the trusses and just raise the roof? You still need to modify the exact location on all the door headers to adcomidate the new doors.
I have an Attached 2 car and I want to add a 30' deep 2 car to the back of mine, but I only have a 7' door with NO room to raise the header to get my truck in the garage. I would LOVE to raise my 8' ceiling to 12'. The only way I can think to do it is to raise the roof.
Though my plan also includes raising the roof, then reframing new 12' wall sections to place where the existing walls are. This will require new wiring and insulation.
I'm not sure my building department would accept sister inc a new wall section on the wall without a ton of added shear support.

Still really neat to see someone do it this way though!!!!:)

You are correct, it is much easier to raise the roof. I have a 24 x 27 framed garage and I needed to raise the roof 18". I did it by myself with no problems. I made 3 beams out of 2 x 10's and and spaned the trusses from in the garage. Lifted the entire roof with 3 ton bottle jacks and inserted the preframed 18" risers. Re straped and anchored everything in place installed new siding and it was done. This is an abreviated explanation but it did go that simple.

If it where me I would use a poured concrete stem wall (or block even though I hate that stuff) not wood framed filler. I raise houses all the time to do foundation repair, I would use beams and bottle jacks instead of a skid steer.
"Wouldn't it be easier to cut loose the trusses and just raise the roof?" this would depend on if they/you have trusses, maybe it is stick framed.

Local gun club here raised their club house up. Now the old main floor is the second story.

I would love to raise my whole garage up a few feet. I have a full floored attic upstairs and they ran beams across the whole garage. As a result I have a whopping seven feet of overhead clearance where the beams are, so no lift for me.

The decision to raise just the roof or the whole building depends on a number of things.
One is how many in the ground utilities have to be disconnected.
But a big one is the comfort zone of the workers at working at height.

30 years ago I would have had no qualms building rickets to support jacks and beams, and climbing ladders, for a roof lift. I would have dismissed a whole building lift out of hand as beyond my capabilities.

Today I would rather work at ground level and I realize that, despite their size, frame buildings are really just big empty boxes and not that big a deal to lift.

That was pretty sweet. If my garage weren't attached to my house I already would have done this :)

My garage is attached to the house. My plan is to raise just the roof. Basically cut all the trusses free from the 3 walls, and the sheeting free right against the house. Raise the roof 4-5 feet, then remove the ledger and tie the garage roof into the house roof with new sheeting. . I don't have the option to raise the entire structure even if I wanted to.
I'll be making the garage roof match the roof on the house that way. Might look goofy having a 12-13' wall with an 8' door, but whatever :)

Chances of "racking" the Building are high doing it that way. I would have detached the Trusses then had a Crane come in and lift the Roof off while Prebuilt Pony Walls were being installed. Set the Roof back down, side it and be done. In the Pony Walls you would have the option to install some windows for light at the top of the wall.

Million ways to skin a cat though.
