Is your S/O truck better?

It seems the S/O truck that stops at our shop never has anything. I mean, it LOOKS full, but there are 3 of us, & we hardly ever get anything without ordering it.

18v S/O Impact - had to order
18v S/O Drill - had to order (a month wait)
Line wrenches, didn't have, bought elsewhere
1/4'' 10mm socket - He didn't have it loose, had to break up set to get it. While I still got my socket, this practice is common, leading to MANY incomplete sets of ANYthing on the truck, sockets, wrenches etc. ( I waited 2 months to get a complete set of impact sockets).
Brake piston tool - nearly a month into waiting on a replacement.
o2 sensor socket - didn't have
Drill bits- nope

I could go on. Is it just our luck? Does anyone else have any trouble? I know he can't have EVERYTHING, but we look forward to getting what we want/need when the pulls in.

Gets a little discouraging, just leave the catalog boss, we'll get it.

Our SnapOn guy is really good. He keeps a pretty broad assortment of stuff on the truck, and he knows what we break most often, so he keeps extras of them as open stock on the truck. All I've ever needed that he had to order was a Bluepoint mini torch.

Of the 4 that service us snappy is by far the best. I dont buy much from the trucks but with Mac and Matco they almost always have to order stuff. Snappy usually has it on board. My Matco guy is by far the better salesmen though and can get anything in three days. I buy all of my "soft" tools from him. Gloves, scanners, electronics, etc...******** does not stop regularly and thus gets none of my money.

You might need to order the "odd" items off his truck but common hand tools and power tools are in stock. Everything on your list is in stock on his truck and I can't imagine a tool truck not having them. The Matco and Mac guys are about the same around here and also keep well stocked trucks.

I didn't think the things I listed were "exotic". I guess thats the part that gets me. A wrench rack, or socket trays? No? Hmmmmm. But he DOES have a TUV on there! (He'll have that forever).

All I can say is take that little red book fill out the wish list part and give it back to your dealer maybe he will stock some of the wish list pieces maybe not I have noticed lately that it has been taking our dealer much longer to get ordered items in kinda discouraging

Same with my SO dealer. Basic orders are taking over a month to get in. Been waiting for some jaws for my puller for over 2 months now. Anybody else experiencing incredibly long ordering times? My mac guy on the other hand... I've never had to wait more than 2 weeks for anything.

My guy is awesome. Has everything most of the time. He gets all promo's in the monthly flier and he has just about everything I need. If I need to order it's within a week unless it's exotic.

Mine doesnt keep much of the tool box organizing stuff on hand, mainly because he knows that most of all of it is rebranded. But I have picked up a Terminal Tool Set TT600, Torx 55 plus and a few other random things that I didnt expect him to have on hand. When it comes to sockets and wrenches he has one of everything unless he sold them that day. He also has every Dual 80 they make and I drool over the ones I dont have everytime I am on the the truck.

My dealer is pretty good he usually has common things I need and has a lot of specialty things on promotion. I think it really just has to do with how much credit the dealer snap-on.

My guy is very good, has the truck packed full of everything, most of the things ive had to wait for were things he had sold and hadnt restocked yet. But there are some oddball things he has to order, all showup by the next week.

your SO guy sounds like my old one he got canned from SO for bein a junkie my new guy however has a brand new Kenworth loaded to the gills with anything SO makes and is always offering deals I do my best to avoid him LOL.

if it takes a month, just order it online or order over the phone.

Ive never been on the SO truck in our area, guy yelled at me from across the parking lot about 3 years ago. Left a catalog on the ground with his card and drove next door. I felt it was extremely unprofessional and rude. Never actually got on his truck. Ive heard so many stories from the shops across the street, he'd like a guy "try out" a 1/2 Impact (for example) and come back the next week and tell him he bought it cause he used it. I've had numerous people tell me stories like this, i tend to stay away from like the plague. If i need a SO tool, I'll order it from the site.

Mac guy took the time out of his day to stop by, get out of his truck, knock, introduce himself, and was overall a pleasure to deal with. Been a loyal customer for about 3 years now and it pays off. Throws me a freebie from time to time, gives me a deal on things that arent on promo, Always had something i needed to order on the truck in a weeks time.

Matco guy, never actually took the time to stop by, always jsut drives right passed our garage. Which is odd seeing as i work in the same parking lot and a Honda, Toyota and Nissan dealer, you'd think he'd atleast stop in.

I had to order some industrial torx and a long torx. He messed up and got some power torx (not sure what the difference is) but he got the ones i needed following week.

The reason they dont have tools is simple, they cant get them because they are maxed out on credit and cant order them. Same thing I go through with my guy, its an absolute joke that snap on lets this go on. You can tell who the good dealers are buy just the guys posting on this thread, some trucks are packed and some have nothing but excuses.

Unless you mentioned him when you signed up online I believe that is not the case.

You would of had to created your account online using the link on a dealers website for a dealer to get credit for your online purchases. If not, a small percentage of your purchases is divided between all of the dealers and we get a quarterly credit. I think the last credit I got was $29. I have had several people on here sign up under my website and I get a credit for those purchases every month.

i try and keep everything i can on the truck. right now i am overstocked as to the point that the tools are in cardboard boxes on the floor. I sell out of somethings fast so it is hard to keep adequate stock on some things.
60% of my route is aviation maintenance so i keep everything i ca for those guys and try and keep up with the car shops. I hate ordering tools for a customer. i want to hand it right to you when you ask.

My guy is fairly well stocked with bigger stuff (most of his customers are diesel shops as far as I can tell) and common mechanic hand tools. First when I started visiting his truck I found that he didn't participate in any of the deals (BOGO and whatnot) but now he's starting to carry a few of those. Too bad for me as I had already acquired a lot of the stuff that usually goes on sale and I'm not buying doubles just to buy them. I think the ordering/pricing structure has changed a bit for the Canadian dealers since the Ontario facility closed. His shipping time has been increased but he now apparently has better access to promotions than he had before. I'm in no rush for my orders and if they're not there when I visit the truck I can usually find something shiny that I want to buy.

Our newest and probably soon to be former SO dealer is just plain a dumb *** and has no clue what he is doing or what most of the tools even are, you normally have to show him what the stuff is. I needed a Dzus tool and had to give him the part number off the web page because he said he didn't know how to look it up in a catalog or search it on the web catalog and he would have to call around to other dealers to order the tool.

the dzus tools was one of the first tools i had to order when i started. luckily it was easy to find in the book...... i have dealers that have been around longer than me that will call and ask me about tools and part numbers. 1800 dial a help....

MrShaun, if we had more trucks stocked like yours, I would be in trouble with impulse buys. My guy only has the bare basics, of which I have bought them all. The regional specials are hard to come by, and i've been told even the $99 specials were being advertised at $135.

My snap on guy almost always has the replacement tools we need, most of the new stuff we want, unless its not snap on brand of course, which he will happily order. And he carries a pretty good assortment of used stuff/rebuilt for guys like me that he knows cant always afford to buy something brand new. I have had three other snap on guys in the past that i seldom buy from, but my current one gets almost all of my business just because of his great service.

I'm not on a regular route so I can't attest to my dealers normal performance but I usually call a week in advance and tell him what I'm looking for and he has it for me when I come pick it up. I do it more as a courtesy to him as I know I'm not a big spender and I don't want him to be out of something that one of his more regular customers might need.

Lots of stock, nothing i really want. Never does you a deal, ever. If i want something, it almost always has to be ordered. (5 weeks for a set of impact extensions.) I just buy off the website, eBay or from another supplier. My old dealer was great, always did a deal, got orders in fast, i spent a lot of money with him, it was worth it.

I don't know how my dealer paid for a £90k truck.
