What is cycolac ? I've never heard of it before and what is it used for, normally ?


I like the light holder, thinking outside the box.

It's an ABS plastic. It feels harder and less "oilly" than generic black ABS.

I have seen the receiver hitch idea just not vertical. I like it. I bet 5/8" holes would hold it as well. I think Certiflat holes may have a use! A whole series of receiver hitch males and females could be scattered all over a shop.

You do great work, and are giving me ideas for setting up my shop area when I get to that point. Space is to scare not to be multi-functional. Thanks for the pics!

No. They came from the Gulf station/speed shop I work at 40 years ago. I loved working there and when they were tearing it down, I was given those cabinets. I incorporated them into my shop area design along with the laboratory cabinets connected to them.

I am having a concrete floor poured in my barn next week. I also wanted a walk around work bench with electric so I am putting tubing under the concrete to the area the workbench will be in. I also am putting the same type of receivers in my floor for anchor points or to put a post in for a grinder or vise. I plan to put a block of treated wood in the openings to keep things from falling in. I figure I can put a screw in and pull it out when I need the tube. Push comes to shove I will simply drill out the wood and take a shop vac to the pieces. Have you considered making a pull out extension on the work bench with iron pipe for sliding rods. I plan to do this so I can widen the top with minimal effort to support wider projects.

I see what you're saying, but with a 4ft. wide bench and the pull out bench pictured below, it pretty much takes care of my needs. I can also use this "under bench" in other areas of the shop if needed. I would have liked to have done what you are talking about with the electric, but at the time, I didn't have my shop area planned out enough to know where to bring the conduit up out of the floor.

Yes, I got a treated 6 x 6 only because I got a really good deal with my local lumber co. The bench is extremely heavy, just like I wanted to be and just like my dad would have built it...…………..like he built everything. Apple doesn't fall far.

I grinned when I saw the stop light on the bench. I drove to texas one summer to get mine. It hangs in the middle of the party garage. I had to restore it and put in an electronic device to make the lights work in sinc.

Thank you Don. I call that my clean "lay out" bench and it has been brought out a few times already. I am so glad I built it in like that, but it wasn't my idea. One of my friends was there one day while I was still using it as a work bench and made a comment about how nice it was and it's a shame I couldn't figure out a place to put it once I built my real bench. He even said I should just put it underneath.
That traffic light is going up in the middle of the shop when I recover from shoulder surgery. Already have a controller from an outfit called Galak.

I have a 2’ x4’ “Assembly table” I keep under my table saw outfeed table. It’s a shorter bench made compleatly out of 1/2” plywood. It works great for final assembly of cabinets and it stores out of the way when it’s not needed.

It doesn't look as good in my garage as it does in the party garage, but at least it got put up.

Nice looking work bench. I never considered using a vertical insert like that. If i ever get around to making a better fab table i may have to look into using that idea.
