Anybody go to the tool dealer show in Orlando last week?

Any interesting new tools coming out? I'm always interested in new stuff, but didn't make it down this year.

If you went, how was business? Beth Skove at TechShop said business seemed to be picking up. What was your impression?

I went with my tool dealer. I'm a tech, so to see all those tools ... Good turnout with over 200 vendors. I was given a badge with my name on it and it said "customer" at the bottom. Do you know how hard it was to resist NOT ordering everything under my dealers account??

Had lots of fun. Talked to as many manufacturers as possible. I also gave them some commentary from a techs point of view. And, for that I recieved lots of freebies.

I think they should hold a seperate show for the public, it only seems right to let the people that use them take part... Not a bunch of pencil pushers trying to think of what might sell. Oh well, back to reality..

I went with my tool dealer. I'm a tech, so to see all those tools ... Good turnout with over 200 vendors. I was given a badge with my name on it and it said "customer" at the bottom. Do you know how hard it was to resist NOT ordering everything under my dealers account??

SEMA is not a public venue. It is for the latest and greatest new products that are going to hit the market. You must be a Manufacture or a Vendor to get in. Unless you go with either as a guest you can not enter the show.

Did they change it for this year.?Because that is how it has been since it started.

quite easy to get some fake business cards made up for a couple bucks and use that to get in.

Sorry guys, no pictures!! But, I got a bunch of shirts, some LED lights, disposable gloves, "bamboo" gloves (not sure about these), bunch of decals, cataloques, and FREE LUNCH...

I thought the SEMA Show was open to the public on the last day of the show? Hasn't it been in the past? I'm usually long gone from Industry Week by then.

Thanks for the feedback on the tool dealer expo. Wish I could've been there.

YogiTech - there should be a tool show for techs. The three step channel really keeps manufacturers a long way from their customers sometimes. Makes life challenging.

The business-to-business environment allows the industry to showcase the newest products and technologies, and it makes the SEMA Show the ideal location for buyers and manufacturers to connect with one another. The good news is that we rely on media to spread the word from the show floor... it's not perfect but it is the only option for non trade attendees.

I don't think its right to say, "... newest products and technologies,.... the ideal location for buyers and manufacturers to connect with one another". We the people who actualy use these tools everyday are the buyers. You can't expect the retailers opinion on the usefulness of the perticular tool to translate to the user.

Its like going to the store to buy your wife a set of **** underwear and expect her to love it without her input... aighn't gonna happen.. My opinions are different than her's.

Wouldn't you want a better way to recieve feedback from the people who your targeting?

if you really want to go, sign up a company name and get a resellers license from your local govt office. make up some business cards from one of those free for 500 internet places, and go to SEMA. quite simple. hell, turnout has been so ****** over the years they should be begging people to go..

I was commenting on the lines of ISN, not necessarily SEMA. I've never attended SEMA so I have no clue what its about. If the opportunity arose I would attend.
