I found what looks to be a good deal, I've found reviews on the newer ITB's sold through HomeDepot and a few other online stores. The new stuff appears to be the same lay out as what I'm looking at with only a few small "shiny pieces" added.

Anyways I can get the box pictured for under $300 and an 8 hour round trip (roughly a $100 in fuel).

I know its no Snap-on / Mac / etc but what do you think? Any negative / positive comments from anyone who has had their hands on one of these? I trust the feedback here MUCH more than any reviews elsewhere.

Here are the links to the new stuff top and bottom

The new boxes sold by Home Depot look like they are made by SPG International: http://www.spginternational.com/ - some are made in Canada, others overseas.

The box in the Home Depot photo has a Canadian flag sticker. It's hard to see because it's gray instead of red.

I'm not sure if SPG International ever branded with "ITB" or "ITB 2" like the ones in your picture, though. I think vintage SPG International boxes are branded SPG instead, with a stylized downward-facing arrow.

Edit: Oho! Found more info right here! http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15203

FWIW, the drawer pulls on that ITB box look similar to my Proto top box.

I think it's a fair price at $400.

I bought a 56" international tool box from homedepot.ca last year. So far i love the tool box and its been great quality wise. The best thing is my box has 22" deep drawers.

I just finished reading that thread when you commented on mine. I'm even more confused now on the origin of the box but feel a little better about the quality.
How do you like your Proto?

I really like it, but it's a good fit in my very small shop (27" wide, 18" deep, 19" tall). I'll take some photos of the setup today and post to my shop thread.

I'm curious to know if the old ITB branded International toolbox use pulls that can take a label - I have an old MBC-made box that needs a drawer pull.

I asked about the brace in the long / deep drawers and the label in the handles, haven't heard back yet... I'll have my eyes / hands on it tomorrow. Was hesatent to make the trip but he's liquidating his collection of tools too so its worth a trip in hopes of a good deal on some good tools.
