Hello fellow knuckle busters!
I'm looking for advice on where to find the"correct" type of salvage motor. My old floor standing bandsaw needs a new motor. I realize that 1/2 or 3/4 HP motor that runs 1725rpm can be bought easily, but I thought my son and I could have fun pulling out a salvage motor. Is there a certain type of washing machine, dryer or other appliance I should be on the look for, or stay away from? Where I live the dump charges for appliance drop off, so people give them up for free when they upgrade, to avoid cost. Any tips would be great, thanks!

That would be a very large motor to be in a home appliance, plus they will often be open frame and probably not suitable for a bandsaw

You'd likely need an attic fan, large blower or something off another tool, like a table saw.

new appliance motors aren't going to be ideal as mentioned.
old washing machine motors powered all kinds of saws, grinders etc, albeit usually under powered.
maybe look in local classifieds for a suitable motor , clean it up, paint it, swap pulleys etc & use that as a learning experience with your son
