Codes and setbacks are a funny thing. My old house I was planning on putting a room above my garage where the floor rafters would extend 2 ft out this pushing my roof overhang an additional 2 ft out. That brings the structure 2 ft closer to the road. City would not allow it because they said it would be closer than what they allow. The set back allowance was 55 ft from the center of the road and with the addition they said my house would be at 46 ft…. Then I let them know that they broke code when they allowed my house to be built and all my neighbors. Permit was approved next day.
