Issues with Delta 11-100 Taper Fit

Chuck kept falling off and looking at the taper at the end of the spindle it looks pretty badly scored. After polishing it slightly with some 800 grit it doesn’t seem to have enough friction left to grab the chuck. I’m assuming a machinist can correct this? Is there an easier fix? I sort of need the drill press this week. Odd that the taper isn’t just replaceable. But it looks like it’s all one piece with the spindle.

Blacken that spindle with a Magic Marker and lightly twist on the chuck to see where it contacts. Then clean up more as you have done and use a bit of grinding paste turning the chuck (by hand ) on the spindle if needing more cleanup. If not too far off you can usually improve the "grip" of a chuck that won't stay put. Add some chalk to give it additional grip.

Note - this drill press uses the same easily interchangeable spindle as the common Rockwell Delta 14" drill press (aka DP-220). Here is a link to an auction of the router bit spindle for reference on what they generally look like. Sadly, I have a spare one of the router holder too, but not the one with the Jacob's taper which you need. Just find a replacement.

Looks like that would work. But that one looks like I need a taper as well. I can’t tell but it looks like my spindle doesn’t have a replaceable taper. Weird.

At this point the chuck just spins and spins on the spindle. Bottoms out when I insert. I think it’s pretty worn.

The spindle and chuck can be salvaged with the suggestions already received. It's worked for many of us before.

If the chuck bottoms out why not remove the spindle and face or grind off the end to shorten the taper to work up to a larger area where it will grab?
