Issues with Delta table saw motor

A 36-600, the entry model with the direct drive motor. If it has not been running for a while it will not turn on unless I move the blade even just an inch (with a stick). After that it works normal and will start right up every time, until it cools off again. I imagine that the brushes on the motor need to be cleaned off? I figure I would ask here so I can have a better understanding.

First make sure that the unit isn't clogged up with hidden sawdust (see the owner's manual). Beyond that it could be a failed start capacitor or, less likely, a failed centrifugal starting switch. A bad start cap sounds to be more likely. Caps can fail by not holding a proper charge once they cool down.

Do you have anything else running on the same circuit when you try to run the saw? Weird question, I guess. But I just learned that my Lasko fan rated at 10 amps pulls enough current that some other motorized stuff will not run at same time and pops the breaker.

That saw has a universal (brush type) motor, so no start switch or capacitor. Most starting problems on that type motor are related to either the brushes or the commutator.

I stand corrected. Thanks met.

Yeah this is as simple as it gets, wire into switch and from there into motor.

It is just weird how when cold it will be just dead. Turn the blade just a bit and it is back to business as usual. I'm asking because I would like to understand what's going on.
