It finally happend, I lost a tool

It's been a month since my Napa 30mm 1/2 drive impact socket went missing, and I dont think I'll find it.

I dont know if some cloob swiped it at the shop or what happened to it. I only used it twice, and it never left my box otherwise. I guess I'll have to buy a new one

I have had tools go missing before, but always found them by searching or back tracking where I was.

I engrave (most) everything I've got and I am also painting my vise grips green so I know they are mine since everybody has vise grip brand vise grips. Punches & chisels too, mostly for rust though.

Just a rant I guess...

I thought I lost one of my SO nutdrivers the other day. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out what I did with it or what I was using it on.

The other night while my wife and I were eating supper, she asked how switching out the battery in the John Deere went. It was like a light bulb went off. Sure enough, there it was!

What would I ever do without her!

I have you all beat. I lost the saddle off the top of my floor jack. It is somewhere in the garage and I can't find it. This weekend I had to resort to getting out my spare one so I could use the jack. I still can't believe I lost it.

Yeah, you win,,,,,,,,so far. That is a tough item to misplace. I do a fair amount of service work on the road and my road box is filled with junk except for a few tools. I lose too many to carry good tools.

A few months ago at work, i finished a brake job, lowered the vehicle off my hoist, and went for a road test while the customer paid. Upon my return, i handed the keys to the customer and pulled my next job into my bay. When i went to position the hoist pads, i noticed one was missing. It must have somehow got stuck on the pinch seam of the last car.... Figuring there was no way it stayed stuck to the car for long, i went and retraced my route from the road test. No dice. Called the customer, who was halfway accross town by this point. He returned about 30 minutes later, and sure enough, there it was stuck underneath the rocker panel. How it stayed there, I have no idea... I got lucky that day.

Guy I worked with lost a D5 bulldozer once. Couldn't remember what piece of land he left it on and he was working on tons of parcels, like 200-250 mile spread.

I've had that happen to me before....

Once when I was removing/installing door panels, I misplaced the small flat head screwdriver I used for separating the connectors for the window switches and locks. I went crazy looking for it, a co-worker told me i may have left it in the panel.I went searching for it for 10-20 minutes going crazy when i found it right underneath the driver seat!!

Yesterday, I used my magnetic pick up tool while replacing drive belts( i dropped the 12mm bolt ). This morning, magnetic tool no where to be found.
I hope i find it soon, thats the 2nd one i've had to buy....

I found a Snap-On 21mm impact socket and 1/2" drive swivel under my old Jeep...no idea where it came from (or how the heck it managed to stay under there) as I have never taken it in for service. It must have been from a shop that the previous owner had taken it to. Those are the only 2 Snap-On tools I have in my box.

I've been very lucky through the years. I try to keep my work area spotless, and I always try to put my tools either on the workbench or my tool cart. I have only lost a few sockets through the years, mostly craftsman. My father instilled this into me years ago.

I have only lost one socket, and it was actually my old roommate that lost it, and didn't seem to care. I have a task force socket set and he used one of the smallest sockets, a 4mm, to take apart some electronics, and that little SOB disappeared. I have never needed it since, but I still hate having that little void in the socket tray where it belongs.

I thought that I had lost a pair of straight jawed pliers, but last weekend I was over at my brother's house, and there they were, sitting out on the fender of his project truck, rusting away in the elements... I guess I left it there when I helped him swap motors. I wasn't too happy, but luckily its a cheap set and they cleaned up ok.

I lost a 6in craftsman extension after working on a pile of cars on week end. I could not figure out if I had left it in a car or if I had which one. 3 months later one of them came back for its next oil change. I poped the hood and sitting in the channel next to the fender was my extension.

I had a VW Jetta in HS that ate 3 different sockets. I never could find them. Best I could figure is that they dropped into a hole in the structure (frame rail, cores upport, etc...).

I lost a mini mag flashlight about 5 years ago at one of my service customers. I found it 4 years later on top of an electrical panel next to a damper motor I replaced.

My cousin was replacing his fuel pump on his GMC, he had borrowed my SO
F830 2" wobble extension and 1/2" socket all snap on , he said he droped it and couldnt find it I told him it had probably fell inside a cross member he said he looked and it was no where to be felt, so 2 months later we were driving through town after he had already replaced what he had lost, came to a red light he got on the brakes hard and out came my ratchet,extension and socket , I ran out into the intersection and grabbed them , That was luck

I kept my old old stuff, and the stuff he replaced it with for the pain and suffering I went through...

I bought a Snap-On ratcheting screwdriver in 1989. It was my go-to screwdriver for computer and small electronic repair as I could carry a bit set and fasten/unfasten nearly anything with that bad boy. Last year it just up and disappeared. I figure I must've just left it at one of the jobs I did fixing a computer. To my knowledge it's the only tool I've ever lost.

Losing tools *****! I hate it and i usually find what i thought i lost after i bought a new one.well,you can never have to many tools right? Lol.
