Are all SFP+ direct attached cables more or less the same - aka, universal.

I see some from the same manuf, in the same lenghts, they have different part # for Generic, Cisco and Juniper.

Looking to get one just to connect 2 Poweredge Switches.

No, they are not all the same.

ie: Some HP switches require HP branded SFPs, Cisco will not work. Likewise in reverse.

In our lab we found that Intel NICs using copper were sensitive to the quality of the cables. We achieved best results with Cisco branded cables. Some of the generics would cause periodic link failures to our Spirent test center. Spirent indicated that some of the generic cables were not within SFP+ specs.

Some are "active" and "passive", it depends on the equipment and as stated above, some vendors lock down to only their branded cables. I would probably just **** it up and get the Dell Branded TwinAX cables. Then if you have a problem you can call Dell and they can't blame it on the cable type.
