Productive weekend.....got the floor done!

IMG_4098.jpg

The line in the concrete towards the bottom of this photo are from my 9 y.o. the day the slab was poured....he thought since we were walking on it, he could ride his scooter....too much weight, too little surface area on the scooter wheels:

IMG_4100.jpg

Flakes are red/black/white, epoxy is Performance Epoxy 100% solids in "Taupe"....

That will make for a good story once he gets older.

Yup, and it was too firm to put their hands into it, so, this is a nice second! Gives it character. Wife said he was afraid I'd be mad at him.....LOL.

Update time again....got a first coat on the window trim, got the vinyl base molding installed, and retrieved my trailer load of cabinets I scored........GRATIS.....and started playing with layout of said cabinets. They will be R & R'd before final installation, tho!

Check it all out:

Base molding:

Trim painted, first coat:

Possible layout:

Compressor goes in this corner. I'm thinking in that base cabinet, a stainless sink going into a 1/4 drum with a pump for a parts washer.....maybe "undermounting" the sink so I can fab some kind of cover for when not in use....thougts?

Dang, sorry guys, apparently I've been.....errr....away!

Doors: rolled.....spray rig I had borrowed from my bro crapped before I could even spray a single drop.....sprays water just fine, but paint it won't shoot(unless I thin it to the consistency of water, at which point it becomes useless....)

Post tension slab....deciding factor was it works out pretty close to dead-even with a rebar slab here, cost/labor wise. The tension cables are a little pricier than rebar, but the labor to put them in is less than rebar, and takes a lot less time. Also, IMO(feel free to have your own, it's America!), post tension is just better. 25,000 psi on those cables, running N/S, and E/W, any cracks will be held together.....at least, that is the theory. Our house is done that way, as well, and the only crack that I can see(since there is no floor covering over it!), is in the garage, and it has been there since about, oh, day 56 of construction, and has not grown, ie, it's hairline, and not going nowhere.

So, todays update!

Update o the day.......base cab's painted, hardware changed on the ones that didn't match(tarnished brass?? I don't think so!!!)...wall patched where upper cab's ledger board was hung too low....measure twice, hang ledger board once...gotcha. Base cab's all installed, now to figure out topper.

Aaaaaaaand, drumroll please........The Allowance is in Allowance Alley!!!! Whooooop!!!!!!!!!!! Started filling cabinets too, but who cares?? LOL!!! The move has been made!!!!!

Still have some paint touch ups to do, and put the new toe-kicks in at the bases of the lower cabinets, but will get that tomorrow. Bookshelves will get a re-do and go upstairs in the boys play room.....so, those will be gone....TV shelf needs an extension, so I'll lay in some birch ply I have, cantilevered outside of the cabinet, so the tube can sit square, and, cable needs hooked up in the house to that TV......:y:

I just picked up on this thread. Nice garage.

How long was it between your slab pour and the application of your epoxy floor?

It seemed fast (I thought there was a recommended cure period before you could put down epoxy) but then again I wasn't looking at the time stamps on the posts.

I only ask because I'd like to put epoxy down quickly and want to know the minimum amount of time I have to wait before I can.

Poured the slab May 4th, epoxied the floor June 20th, so 45 days.....Performance Epoxy says minimum of 28 or 30, can't remember exactly now...

Thanks, guys, pretty pleased with it myself.

Waiting for F-I-L to fab some wall mount brackets for the outside unit of the mini-split, and waiting for me to finish the move. Where'd I get all this STUFF???

And, lastly, kudos to you two for accurately naming the car. Most of the time I get, "Hey, cool Mustang!!".......LOL.

Garage looks great. What type and brand of paint is the red and black that you used for the cabinets. They turned out great. Thinking about doing the same treatment to my cabinets.

Plain-jane Valspar at Lowes.....in quarts.....the black is Satin Black, the red Gloss Cherry Red. Would have rather done a satin on the red, too, but they did not have it at the time. Used two quarts of each, but, some of the black was used on door/window trim.

A/C install
Sod
Organize

Well, the sod is down, at least one pallet's worth....that was enough to go twice around, and put some in front of the porch where I had spread left over sand. Boss lady was getting irritated at the kids/dog/daddy tracking in the sand. Imagine that.

Started re-installing the fence today after a weekend visit to my folks. Dad had a ton of tools "he doesn't ever use anymore" for me. Will have to sort through them. And two of the 8' long metal shelving racks that were "just taking up space"....Thanks, Dad!

Things left:
Gutters
Counter tops
Finish fence
Organize
A/C

Oh, and while the boys and I were out of town, the wife did all my touch up painting, and I didn't even ask!!!

For sure.....especially since she was the one that WANTED me to build this building.....

No, the completed car parts laying around the house didn't have ANYTHING to do with it.....I just didn't want them getting nasty banged up out in the attached!!! HONEST!!!

Got a/c? YUP!!!!!

Started at 96* at around 6-ish, set it for 80*, got there by 9-ish, maintained it all night, easily. This thing is suuuuper quiet, even the outer unit you can barely hear without standing right in front of it.....

Also managed to get the ramp built for the back overhead door:

IMG_4154.jpg

Still need to backfill with soil, and put in sod along the edges, but overall, happy with the weekend! Darn near to the point of getting to work on the car again!!!

Busy night....insulated the overhead doors.....1/2" foam with 1/2" spacers for an air gap:

IMG_4157.jpg

IMG_4158.jpg

We'll see what kind of difference that makes this evening. Walking by the big one, which faces west, you could feel the heat radiating in.

Wow....I haven't posted here in forever. Finally getting around to "finishing" some items in the cave, like, countertops, trim, organizing.....you know, the little things.

Had some issues over the summer, big storm blew in my west facing overhead, creased it right in the middle. Replaced it with a "wind-load" door(wish I'd known of those the FIRST time!). Thing looks like a jail-cell, all the supports/braces. Will have to dig up a picture. In the meantime, enjoy these:

"Roughed up" my aluminum counter tops with 80 grit on a RO sander:
Down the length of the counter:
IMG_4407.jpg

And a close up of the counter top, showing trim, "rough" textured finish of tops, and channel used to finish the edges:
IMG_4413.jpg

And after the clear coating/trim boards are up:
The product: POR15 Glisten PC....two-part clearcoat.....fair warning, it stinks to high heaven!

Before:

After:

Down the length:

Nice product!!! Two coats, 20 minutes apart, yielded a smooth, glossy finish. Should be easy cleanup, and provide a nice work top for the boys and I to "build stuff"!
