CL Score on my way home from work today! Not gonna lie, kinda awkward... Talked to the guy for a minute on the phone, asked if I could grab it on my way home from work since I drive right past his house. He works 2nd shift and no one would be home. So, he tells me it's next to his garage, under his BBQ, and just go grab it and leave the $10 somewhere. So all day at work I'm thinking okay, this guy is either extremely trusting for someone he only has talked to for a minute in his life, or I'm going to die. Well, I'm here, the box is here, he's just extremely trusting. And, he has more old tools he's looking to get rid of as well. Score!

The box itself measures 30"x9"x9" and is a 40's era CMan. Think the 3rd photo may be the model number? The 4th is a tag on the lid. Not quite sure yet if the saw holder in the top lid is factory or not, but there's a saw blade holder on the bottom as well. The saw is Stanley, probably 70's or 80's. Few Hilti drill bits, a Nicholson and CMan files, and Wiss snips. Not too shabby!

He wasn't worried, since he works for NSA and had your home address and bank account numbers called up before the phone call was over! :scared:

You guys have me collecting Channel Locks now...

On my way to the post office and Fedex this morning, I pass a house and a guy is walking to the street with a 4x8 sheet of paneling with "TOOLS & HUNTING STUFF" painted real big on it. Naturally I swing around to see what's up. There was a **** ton of camo clothing but not a lot of tools. I saw a crown top router with bench top table, some old well used Kershaw knives and one lil plastic tool box with the Channel Locks inside. I asked if I could buy just the pliers, guy says yeah, $0.50!! Feeling pretty psyched, I ask about any other tools that may be available. Guy says, come look at this and opens his shop door. There in front of me is a 12' trailer load of Craftsman power tools from the 50s up!!! He says he hasn't had time to go through it all, he was busy with the sale and would have more out each day. He mentioned a family friend had passed and he was selling this for the widow. I offered my help in pricing, left a business card and went on to the post office, etc.
pic02938.jpg

While driving my chores, I could not get the trailer load off my mind, it was overwhelming to look at for the 30 seconds I saw it earlier so I had to get a better look. I passed back by on my way to the shop and pulled in, no customers this time so he let me inside the garage. There was a bad *** 6" Craftsman Deluxe Jointer with somewhat rare double post stand and extra knives nib. There was a large Craftsman table saw from the 60's with the cast table and extensions. There was a 6x48 Craftsman Sander but it was under everything and missing the disc attachment so he is going to look for it and get back with me. There was a 16" Rockwell scroll saw same gen as my jointer that looked hardly used. There was another whole half of a trailer I could not see that may have some goodies, cross your fingers!!

This is what I got for $100, great condition but no sander attachment :dunno:

There is no sander attachment, it used a 1/2" wide by 80" long sander belt instead of the blade. Catalog # 9 HT 22361
You have the extension which is cool, keep an eye out for the fence.
I parted one of those out let me know if you need anything.

If that router table is crown label and looks nice I would be interested if it is about $10 or under and if he wants to sell it only with the router I would do about $25 as long as the router works. And see if he has any router bits in a box

The table had the newer 80's logo "double rectangles" but was in excellent condition and had the sliding guides, the router was in great condition and was crown top. He wanted $25 for the pair. I would have popped at $10-15 but I have the same router/table setup from the 90s and a 2hp Craftsman router nib so I passed. It had one round over bit in it, me mentioned that it had a $15 bit so it had to be worth $25, lol.
Hopefully he has some bits and things, there are lots of boxes(no tool boxes) of things to go trough on that trailer but he was busy so I got the bandsaw and bailed.
If you want that router, I'll go grab it.

And thanks for the clarification on the sander. ;)

Yea have 3 Crown routers now I believe, I have pretty much the same table, looking for a nice Crown label one. The pawn shop had one for $40, I am too cheap for that LOL.

Today got me a 1/4" Craftsman breaker bar, a Craftsman distributor wrench, and a 19mm craftsman combo to replace a Canada China one in a set that I have. Cost me $5.

Left an older gray/red Craftsman upper toolbox that was mint there for $50 and an older Snap-On lower roller for $175. I'm still thinking about going back for the roller.

6" S-K Tools. The Craftsman 7/8 at the top was half the cost, it was the only one marked with a price($4.95), I offered $10 for the lot and they accepted.

Buy the toolboxes!

My garage is already overflowing and I already have a basket case craftsman top chest. You guys aren't helping me keep from going back :eyecrazy:

I'll probably check it out tomorrow afternoon and see what's left and how the discounts are going. That roller would be a PITA to get home.

Lower right hand side is the three tools from the estate sale. Everything else is from a garage sale. I left a bunch of pliers in the package, I think I'm going to go back and get those. No pricing on the Snap-On because I think I'm selling some of it. Well, I'm trying to figure out if I got a good deal on the drill indexes. I got the numbered, the alphabet, and the fractional all for $25 each (so I put together the whole thing for $75). I think he had a metric set as well, is that worth grabbing at $25?

Oh, and did I got one of those SDDD42 thingies?

Nice score on the LandCruiser tool kit. Now toss it on Ebay and watch the zeroes multiply!

In four words... yes.

:)

Drills (UK) or drill bits (USA) have a value based upon how much and how hard they have been used.

Sure you can sharpen them, but if abused or if the spriral edges has been marred, damaged or are dull, it's often replacement time.

They look to be in good shape.

Good find.

The two red indexes are Snap-On and all the bits (including the loose numbered ones) are marked PTD HS USA on them. Google says the brand is 'Precision Twist'.

I just wasn't sure if drilling metric sized holes is a common thing. I've never had to do it (yet).

Shiny things for Shadow!

I just can't keep any of it. It's all too nice for me. I'm really tempted to keep the screwdrivers (and open the sealed package!), but I know I'll never want to chase down the snap-on truck for warranty.

DaveFr,

That star nail cup looks like a nut/bolt organizer that belongs in a hardware store. I bet if you cleaned it up some, it would sell for a lot of money if marketed as a unique serving tray.

I would even attempt to make some cornbread in that thing. It looks like its made of cast iron:lol:

This is why I always carry a picture of Andrew Jackson in my wallet . . . total for all tools was $21. Includes an early Craftsman 4518 pliers, HUOT no. 829 benchtop drill index, Century hi-speed twist bits box w/ a few bits, some nice Armstrong snap ring pliers, set of DUNLAP open end wrenches, K-D no. 40 allen wrench set, Craftsman BE 3/8" breaker bar, and a cool BHM "X" wrench.

I'm having to sell all that SO I got last weekend, too rich for my blood. Paid more for it than I would for anything I would keep in my box personally.

Which size is that? I grabbed a handful a week or two ago to realize 4 out of the 5 were duplicates

9/16 x1/2. I had never seen these before today. I read the patent application and found the designer was trying to make an artsy wrench. Turned out pretty good I think. I'd like to put together a set just because they look cool.

I think I have garage sale rage issues... I had to count backwards from 10 and pet my dog for a minute to cool off after driving 25 minutes to my first stop this morning for absolutely NOTHING... Ad said HUGE sale, indoor and out, plus entire shed contents of tools and antiques. I get there, there are several cardboard boxes of old dry paint and ortho ant ****...no tools... guy says there was some weedeaters earlier but I missed them by minutes...:lol_hitti After a quick look around the house, it appears they call those avon flasks and a utilty room full of empty styro egg cartons antiques...

While I'm out in the country, I stop back by the Snap On guy from last week's sale. There was a big box full of NOS oil filters left at fifty cents each and some long pattern pittsburg wrenches, little bit of nothing as it had been picked over for a while now. I did manage to dig out these Proto adjustable and 3/4-1" adaptor, Craftsman 1-1/4 socket, long chisel, pry bar and 32oz bp head all for $10 :willy_nil The Snap On sander was many times that amount but should clean up well and cover my Craftsman purchase, maybe gas...
