I have been lurking on here for awhile. A couple of months ago we bought a new house on a couple of acres here in central ca. It has shop already on it, kind of. The previous owner had an office business of some sort that he ran out of two thirds of the building. It only has 9' ceilings which ***** but oh well. It is 30' deep by 63' long, there is one current 2.5 car bay with a framed in area that will become my work bench/ welder and drill press area. The good is that the office portion is finish dry walled and has heat/ac + vinyl windows. Plans are to open up the separation wall and get rid of the little room in the office portion. Then two additional doors will be added for a total of three two car bays. The progress will be slow due to my brother in law living in the finished part for now while we build a house for him and his folks but oh well on that too. The place has a 200 amp 220 service with two 220 outlets already. Immediate plans are to finish the framed bay and insulate, the door got replaced this last week. and make my work area. The other two bays will be hot rod and Harley parking mostly. Eventually I am going to add a single car door to the back of the shop to be open to my back yard for when kids are out playing. Long long long term plan is to add an additional 30x30x16 rv bay to the north end of it. Thanks for following along

Looks like a great space. I was going to recommend replacing that loose fitting tin sunshield but sounds like you already got it done :)

Getting rid of the sun shield door was my first big thing. I brought my lil ford 800 in the garage under the old door but wasn't about to bring my black '32 under it.

Looks like a fantastic starting point - so much potential there, and room to grow! Looking forward to seeing your progress!

Yes the ford 800 is a tractor, mid 50's era. It is the same size as a jubilee with a lil bit bigger motor and bigger than a 9N. I'll look for pictures on my computer.

thanks for the compliment on the car/truck

TROD: i'd love that space and i could work with 9 foot ceilings since i don't work on cars much. great space for machine shop or woodworking areas or just for parking some of those cool old cars you own and will buy.

cheers and good luck

also welcome to GJ and hope to see you on a few other threads cause we need your wisdom while you learn.

Haven't got a lot done recently, Was housing my brother in law. Once we got him moved and the day the last of his pets left I got tools out. I didn't want his bird crapping on the hot rods so I had left the partition wall up. Here are a few pic of the progress and moving my Harley and Model A into there temporary parking spots (will change as I add more garage doors). I ran out of time to take down the room and second part of the dividing wall. I did roll and save the insulation and it will be repurposed else where in the unfinished portion of the shop as I complete it.

Made some progress this week. Took down 350' of old wood fence, that had hog wire intertwined in it (lots of fun!). Replaced in with 6' privacy cyclone and 27' of double gate. The gate opens 180 degrees so I can still get large equipment in and turned. I also moved the inset for the gate back 8' so I can get in or out of the gate with my pick up and trailer without being in the street. Pretty happy with the results.

Not a lot of updates but a few. I leveled the work bench area and got most of the sheet rock done, this is where my work bench/ cabinets will go. I also laid 100k ton of asphalt grindings, hoping to get them final graded and rolled this week.

Not a lot of progress to show but the electrical is all done now. Panel upgraded, 220 on both ends , all lights changed to led, can lights upgraded and moved to over the benches, and the addition of 12 4' led fixtures. Its slow but its getting there

Nice place, looks like lots of room to stretch out. How far is it from the main house? Is there any garage space attached to main house?

Kruizer, it is about a 1/4- 1/2 an acre from the main house , just on the back side of the back yard. There is another two car garage off of the main house that we keep our daily drivers in.

Haven't posted in awhile but here are some updated pictures. My soon to be 5 year old boys wanted a "shop" themed birthday, so they are having their birthday party in the shop this weekend.

WT: i'm guessing when you said 5 year old boys that you have twins? sounds like they like Dad and his garage so you are already ahead of a lot of us that had boys that like video games.

i've seen several members set up their garages for birthdays and parties so I hope yours is a success.

our twins (boy/girl) will be 29 next month and we already had 3 (2 boys and a girl) before the twins arrived so I know you are very busy, but you will survive.

have fun and great looking garage!!

Thanks drivesitfar, we actually have triplet boys. Congrats on raising multiples successfully! We are always excited to meet parents that "survived" lol. We have a 7 year old as well.

WT: OMG triplets? we sort of had triplets cause our daughter was 2 when our twins were born (one twin has spina bifida), but our daughter was more like their parent. the 14 year old was the biggest baby and he took almost another 20 years to GROW UP.

sounds like you are doing just fine and keep up the great work!!

also even if you have basic projects and want to take a few pictures to post or have some with your boys helping i'm sure we'd love it and you might get to know a few of us better if you have time to post up a few.

good luck cause it's a fun ride with that many little ones and i'm sure there will be a few bumps in the road so to speak. here's to surviving and having fun grandkids!!

cheers

WT: NICE!!

are they old enough to sit on dad's lap yet and steer? I remember sitting on my gramp's lap when I was 6 years old while he was cutting logging roads with a D9 cat and I started driving on the streets around our house in the city when I was 12 in my dad's 63 VW bug.

having dad's hotrod to drive would be a dream, but mine never owned one.

looks like it might be an even bumpier ride with your boys so hang on and enjoy.

cheers

in case you didn't know how big a D9 dozer is here's a pic.

A few pics from my boys "shop" birthday party. Obviously the edited faces are kids that aren't mine lol. Day after of my boys using their tool boxes they got and and my daughter drawing on the floor. Then the shop back to being clean (ish). A fun weekend!

WR: the party looks like fun. I actually turned my 1/2 of our 2 car garage into a gym while my youngest were in Junior high and high school and the boys would come over to hang and workout when they weren't playing some sport.

Been awhile since I have updated but got some stuff done on the shop this past weekend. Added a second two car garage door. Without it I couldn't park in the only two car bay because it would block the other 2/3s of the shop. So if I needed to take a car apart the rest of the shop was jammed up. Now I can easily move cars in and out of the whole shop. Added new t1-11 while we were at it, not quite done but almost.Finishing siding and painting trim next week.
