Bought this house back in 1997 they converted 5/8 the garage to temporary living space... Wife said OK... I want your stuff out of the house and i want the 3rd bed room... where i keep my over flow. So, go ahead do whatever She said, She also said I took your spot for a shop with my swimming pool... So, Do whatever "again" And Make it a full 2 car garage... well!! OK I said!

Me... Dumpster for demo will be ordered as soon as waste connections opens up for delivery today or the next couple days... I Cannot sleep!

Now Gaining 3-4X the work space... = Worth the Remodel? Future Female Human Hassle? to me Yes! So 5AM Post time 4 hours 9AM pacific time to talk me out of the trap!

Do whatever? is what scares me! that's generally you will suffer later!

I am cramped the equipment in sig... + More = packed in a 8.5 X 22/24/26 when I open it up will be 24 X 22/24/26 may be 24 X 24 just guessing width the measurement I know I am 8.5' from double doors to wall and wall to wall inside is 24' deep.

Probably what you "missed" was that a car is going to park inside now, except that you don't get 1/2 of the 24x24. There needs to be room for the car doors to open and let people out, so you are restricted to 8-1/2' x 24'.....;)

If you and/or her want the daily drivers in there, be sure it's big enough or you will out grow it quick and you'll be right back in the same boat. I have two 30'x40' + shops next door and I still have car parts in the basement and the dd's still set outside.

Well if you have the property and you gave the "go" from the wife then all I will say is bigger is better.

ive heard that line before....:lol_hitti

My wife knew what she was getting into before we even got married. LoL.

Only time her vehicle has ever been in the garage is so I could work on them.

Doesn't mean she doesn't complain about it. Then I just throw out the 'fine, Ill sell the Monte Carlo'. She replies 'you aren't selling the Monte'.

She's a keeper, she knows my love for my cars and puts up with it.

Yea, it will get paint in the future.. Cost/Time went out of control on this project! The wife getting MAD I told her 3 weeks of a mess and it's been 5. Now it's Clean up and through dusting, then Cabinetry and Benches.

So far only nagging has been about the dust and mess in the house / outside by neighbors.... so cabinets and shelving is ASAP on the list!

Sweet space! Really like the bench setup.

Yea, it is a Modified Steve-O Setup. I think I need to go Min 3/8" Plate on the Top though or a Bit Thicker.

Just used Rems and Rusted Scrap for the build. Been Buying the Cabinets Used off craigslist and offer up due to they change the depth of them to 22" now. But was a tight fit for sure.

Lots Left to do Steel Spark Guards on the wall, few hitch mounts to weld in for modular vise mounts, etc. As funds allow it gets done.

Nice thing is the Water heater Puts Out A/C and Works as a Large Dehumidifier.. Best of all I got Paid to put it in.. http://www.stevenrhine.com/?p=2311

Dude whatever you do, don't paint now. The last thing you need is that badass bench area looking better then the kitchen:lol:

The shop is coming together nicely and btw, my wife's hummer has never once fit in the garage in 15yrs, so you're not alone. The only time it sees a covered area is either my shop or the mall.....mostly-the mall :(

Looks good! I am redoing my 23x29 right now. Full dumpster in the driveway being picked up tomorrow. My barn has a 2nd story so I am cutting a 9x20 hole in the ceiling so a lift can go up with a car on it. Losing 1/3 of the 2nd floor but my hobby is car work so it’s worth it. In my old house, my bench was 3 of the HF 44s with an MDF wood top. I left the wheels on the boxes. I may go fancier on the cabinets for this barn redo. I like your fancy equipment—I would love to learn to play with a mill.

Well when I built my shop, the wife came home and the crew had the back wall and two side walls erected. 32x56x13-6. She looked at me and said, “%#@;;&$% J C.....I didn’t know you were putting up a GD Walmart!”. I told here I didn’t know how big.....it was only 3.2”x5.6” on paper.......

BINGO!
Better make it at least a 30x40 with a car port roof off to one side...so you can enclose it later when she takes half of the garage.

Isn't it satisfying to have the space? I bet you saw the dumpster leave and felt like a load was off your shoulders.

Guessing the sheet steel countertop is directly on-top of whatever steel framing you have for the US General cabinets? Did you go with 3/8" thick?

I only have room for a 8 ft stationary workbench (2-car garage). I thought about what I needed, and decided to rip a 4' x 8' CDX plywood lengthwise, and then glued & screwed it together, and covered it with a 3/16" piece of 2' x 8' sheet steel, which was much easier for me to move. I made countersunk holes and through-bolted the steel/1-1/2" wood top to the workbench frame. I figured I probably wouldn't be doing anything to it that the 3/16" couldn't withstand. I suppose you also secured the frame for the workbench to the wall?
