Now it's nothing special, a standard attached 20x20, Its a mess at the moment, but tomorrow I have the outdoor storage unit delivered, so I can clean it out, then comes insulation, drywall, paint, new floor( possible Rust Bullet ) and all new storage and I am going to restore my grandfathers woodworking bench that has to be 60+ years old.

I'll post pictures of my progress over the next month here. I am SUPER excited to get this going!

So, here is what we are working with, the storage box was delivered today, so I can start to move all the stuff from the garage into it, electrical should go down on Friday and then Drywall and insulation/vapor barrier starts over the weekend or Monday.

Quick plans...

R15 on ceiling and walls, as I only have 2x4's for framing, Vapor barrier will be on walls and ceiling and the outside of the house is freshly Tyvek'ed as I just had new siding and a roof put on.

1/2" drywall for all walls

New insulated garage door and Liftmaster opener at some point, that's an extra 2500 bucks

I will be Rust bulleting the floor black with gray and white speckles

Adding in 4 outlets on each wall on a dedicated circuit and an extra circuit for my compressor.

3 8 foot LED lights in the ceiling

All new workbenches as well as a restored workbench that was my grandfathers, it has to be 60+ years old.

Adding in a 36" flat screen on the front wall which I'll integrate an old laptop as well.

Oh, not a bad idea... Even if I don't connect it, I can leave it coiled on the floor with a good amount of footage there.

Definitely plan for some in-ceiling speakers so you should most definitely run that speaker wire. Also consider a powered subwoofer somewhere - nothing earth shattering (8" or 10" is fine), but enough to get the low tones from whatever you have on the 36". Should be fun, and good call on the storage box rental while you do all of this.

Thank god the drywallers don't want EVERYTHING in there, I am very quickly running out of room! They just asked I get all the small **** out of their way, I got one whole wall cleared off. I'll post some updated pictures here in a minute.

I just started doing almost the same thing with my attached garage. It started with wanting to add a few more lights and now it's turned into adding electrical outlets everywhere, ripping down the drywall, insulating walls and ceiling, new drywall, insulated garage doors....
Good idea on the storage unit. I will say out of everything, finding places to move stuff or just shuffling it around as I work has been the hardest part and I've only lived there 9 months.

The storage unit is full and I never realized how much small **** I have. I've loaded up a full BAGSTER dumpster thing, and am likely going to need another one. I've ripped out all the shelving and built in workbench. I have a few more things to get out of the rafters first thing tomorrow morning before the electricians get here.

When I unpack the storage unit, I am going to be picky about what goes back, tomorrow I am taking a big *** load of stuff to good will, a lot of it I could sell, but I do not want to hang on to it any longer, so away it goes!

I also have a 7.5x8.5 shed I need to build which will help me get all the lawn **** out of the garage, the issue is I have no clue where to put it! FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS!

I see this name and I am expecting to see a yellow 20th sitting in the garage! Can't wait to see the progress on this!

All the old Chicago Vortex crew is making it back, just in another forum that has nothing to do with cars ( well it kinda does ) HI GUYS!!!!!

And man Chris, 20th's are Cheap now! Maybe I should find one to put in here and mess with!!!??? I REALLY want a motorcycle, but the wifey isn't super stoked on that and she did give me free rain to do the garage, so I don't want to push my limits, that said, as she says, And this Austin is why we have separate checking accounts :bowdown::rocker::rocker:

Hey i found a 78 Honda cb750k with 12k on it for $800 so they are out there! I understand where you are coming from though.. I would rather find a R32 though. I would love a new R but justifying dropping over $40k on a VW hatch is crazy..especially when i have my 13 GTI with 83K on it and still paying off after the lease was up.

Help me plan out the garage guys!!!! I want as much closed storage as possible, I hate seeing clutter. I have 18x18 ( floor is really 20x19) for the most part to work with and I need to try to keep anything deep off the front wall that has sheetrock on it so I can MAYBE for the Tundra in the garage during **** weather in winter.

Up front I'm going to have a 36" LCD tv with a sound bar and I have some old barn wood I'm going to trim the wall with.

I bought some used Gladiator shelving that I'll use on the wall with 4 outlets, and I have an old workbench I need to restore that's 58" x 29", front corner by the low outlet on the 4 outlet wall is for my compressor as that's a dedicated circuit, pretty much the rest of this space is fair game.

I am "thinking" not 100% of using corrugated steel as wainscoting along the bottom of the drywall, I figured this would add a cool look and provide some protection to the most venerable part of the drywall.

Paint will be graphite gross gray along the bottom a lighter gloss gray for the rest of the wall and ceiling. I am aware gloss will show every imperfection, but it will also reflect light better and be a lot easier to clear.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

Thanks! Going to surprise the Wife with a crafting station as well, she thinks I am doing this for only me and she's been on me since we moved here 2 years ago to give her a space she can do her crafts, so she'll have a nice corner to do her thing we well. This will make her very happy and allow me to do more cool things ( dual purpose )

Great start so far. Interested to see what you do with this space since I am moving into a place with about the same dimensions and think its too small, but we loved the house and got a great deal on it.

Man, it is too small, I have a shed I need to build to help get rid of some of the **** that sits in there! Oh and lets see pics of the Wookie!? Long time Dub head here, had a feature on Vortex many years back, don't have any dubs anymore, but still lust!

So I went and picked up grandpas workbench tonight. Going to do everything I can to clean this thing up, and make it look as awesome as the day it was built 70+ years ago!

Let me tell you getting this BEAST in the back of my Tundra by myself was a task, but got it done!

Wow! You are really moving along with this project. Inspires me to do the same with my 20 x 21. My wife has always wanted the garage insulated and drywalled. My issue is I would have to install a full set of ceiling joists as all I have is the minimum corner bracing and the 2x4's spaced every 4 ft across the width of the garage and 2x4's spaced every 4 ft along the length. No 2nd story above the garage or trusses (1 story house). I would also need to redo electrical that I installed a few years ago.

Looking forward to your finished product. Subscribed.

It's only going this quick as I hired on help for Electric, drywall/Mud and insulation, that set me back 3225 for all labor and material, but I wanted this done QUICK, so it was a cost I needed to incur, and so far well worth the price. I'll be taking on painting the walls, floor and organizing the inside, which I HOPE to start as early as tomorrow evening!

I figured that is what you did. Glad they were all on board and ready to go. I am in the middle of a master bathroon redo. I am acting as general on the project. I have also hired out each phase of the project will be in for about $12000 when done, but after watching the plumbers demo the old tile shower yesterday it is money well spent (I'm too old for that stuff). Replacing the shower tile with a solid surface material as my wife said, "NO MORE GROUT!". Also new tile floor, vanity, vanity top to match new shower, new plumbing fixtures, etc, etc. Start to finish, about 4 weeks. Thank goodness we have a 2 bath house
While the bathroom is getting done I'll be finishing up the reface of our kitchen cabinets (new doors and drawers).

Wow, lots of progress. Looking good.

Was there already drywall on the ceiling or are you adding that or leaving it open?

My plan for the foundation stem walls is to either leave them as-is or paint them with a white exterior paint that can be applied to concrete. I think I saw a post on here where someone did that. Most of my lower walls will be covered with work benches or shelves anyway. I would avoid the brick veneer but that's me. I'm trying to make everything as white as possible so I always have enough ambient light for projects. I'm finding there is never too much lighting and white surfaces help immensely.

Ceiling is drywalled as well, I just need to redo the seams as they drywall guys only did one coat of mud to help with costs.

Also picked up the wainscoting, which honestly will be mostly covered in shelving, but I always overdo things :), got the paint as well, the dark gray (Shadows ) will go on the wainscoting, and the rest of the wall and ceiling will be the lighter gray all in semi gloss. I will also have 9 4 foot LED lights up top, so lighting will not be an issue. I am going to hang them like the below

I'll have 3 of those T's across the garage, so I am 99% sure I will have no issues with light in there :)

The wainscoating will have a lower molding and chair rail as well, both of which I am going to do in the dark gray.

Nice, yeah that will probably look really nice. I wired up locations for 10 4ft fixtures but I haven't picked out any 4ft LEDs yet, hoping to find a good sale.
That last picture has me really excited to paint mine, it looks so clean

In, this looks like its going to be a great build.

LOL I hope I live up to expectations, I have a lot of **** to hide back in here and I am by NO MEANS a skilled carpenter :scared:

I REALLY need to get my 7x7 shed built, so I can put a lot of stuff in there.
