I'm cleaning up after doing the Volvo suspension/control arms and was cleaning up the various tools...

Various stuff, from all over. Everything worked great. First time out for new Icon G2 ratchets - they did very well. No complaints at all.

Volvo engineering/design is a little bit funky, but I like it...

-The old 122 series and P1800's were fairly simple and straig. htforward, don't know anything about them past the models from the 60's.
It's just funny/different stuff. The top nut for the super-beefy ball joints is 22mm (large) where the axle bolt is only 13mm, and torqued to 30nm + 90°. I forget the torque spec, but the axle nut for my old BMW is either 44mm or 46mm 😅.

My favorite is on this particular motor (3.2L inline 6) the water pumps virtually never fail - there's an interposer that slow-starts the pump once the motor is running so it doesn't suffer the wear of a snap-start, and even the interposer has a service interval of 150K. Why that's not the default design for all motors is beyond me.

Planned obsolescence. They want you to keep buying motors forever.

Since you didn't burst into flames for having Snap-on and Harbor Freight tools on the same job.
You could try a different route:

Use what it takes to get the job done. The flex is in the doing, not the brand 🤣

My ratchet drawer has all sorts in it. No brawls yet. Lol.

We joke at work that if you buy your tools in pink, they won't walk away. The majority of tools are issued (largely acquired by me these days), but everyone has some measure of personal items and preference in their box.

How was the Icon G2 vs your Matco on the locking flex? You had mentioned before you had issues with the Matco.

I haven't tried the G2 yet, just have Matcos and the sloppier GW copies.

I got a rebuild kit for the Matco that improved the head-locking switch, but it's still pretty dang stiff.

The G2 worked perfectly - mechanism is smooth and I like the handle grip. It would be better if it were shorter...
