Hello everyone,
Started building my 36 x 24 detached garage back in August. Few more things left to do. Route air system, place storage cabinet system, figure out what I'm going to do on my floor. I work from home so the upstairs BIS my home office, downstairs toy box. Just had bendpak 2 post lift installed w/ low pro arms. Quincy compressor just arrived. Posting pics from pretty much start to where it is today....73fcd8105eb5850057e5991a5234d432.jpg

That's where it's at today. Really pleased....told the wife today we're going to start a 12 x 16 foot addition on the back for a full bath, extra storage and place to put compressor out of main bldg.....She just rolled her eyes

I could see myself living there, perfect place, I'd sneak a bed in the loft and wouldn't tell my wife, just not come in after a long night wrenching... see how long before she would notice haha!

Awesome place mate! that's a dream garage / hangout for sure!

Thanks for the compliments guys. If there was one thing I could change it would be a drain. We decided about halfway through we would use metal roofing panels on the lower 40" of the walls instead of sheetrock all the way. We have now sealed it along the floor to make it water proof...Got a new squeegee ...Lol
Ohhh I would have made it 10 feet wider too...Guess that's a common regret....lol

looks great!!!!

one question... what are the led strip lights? info?
A buddy of mine got them for me. The 8 foot singles were I think 24.00 each, the 8 foot doubles were 30.00 and the 4 foots were 18.00. they all hook together with jumper wires. When all are on its operating room bright...lol

Awesome place! I wish I had a nicely finished shop that complemented the house.

I love the V too; I had an '05 for a little while. It was a fun car, even without the whistle under the hood.

...very nice job,...if I were building those dormers, I would've just hooked them together to create one big dormer, less work and so much nicer area when done, more light, etc.
...those dormers look almost out of place to my eye as narrow as they are,...just my 2 cents, very nice work there.

That's what we did in back.....Well 22 feet of it anyway
22 feet of the width has 10 foot ceilings with my office above that whole area....The other 14 feet of width, where lift is has 22 foot ceilings..... Doing extended dormer on front like back would look weird if we just did it across the 2 2 feet like back.... All the way across front would have been extra expense for really no gain on the 14 foot part...Just more air up which I didn't need..That make any sense..lol

ok,...now I see, I didn't see any pics of the rear dormer, but thot it looked like a lot of space in your interior shots upstairs,...thanks for the reply.

Very good looking detached garage. Love the way it matches the house and has great curb appeal.

Mike.
Thanks Mike,
It was a battle with the homeowners association. We have almost 4 acres and are the first house in the development. They turned me down initially saying it wouldn't architecturally match the "feel" of the community...After a few heated conversations and potentially legal involvement they gave me approval.....Now the association love it because of the curb appeal....lol

That is a beautiful building. Question- is the lift fairly functional? It looks tight between the wall and that support post. Hard to see, but once your cabinets are in, looks like it may be snug up front too... love the build!

The lift pole closest to the windows has 24 inches between the wall the edge of it. Enough to squeeze through if need be but when a car or truck is up on the lift there is much more room between the wall and the side of the car. More than enough working room and moving from Front to back is no problem.
Because it's an asymmetric lift I can load vehicles with the centerline of them behind the columns. I've have had all my cars up on it and have almost 5 feet between the front of the car and the edge of the toolbox/ storage system minimum. If it was a symmetrical lift , I would have mounted the lift dead center of the depth of the garage

Ohh one more thing... All the cabinets will be located along the back wall....Where they are in the pic is not where they will end up....They are less than 2 feet deep

Here's a pic showing how cars locate with rearward bias on lift...Being able to open doors wide on lift is another plusf85541aa52b5f2cc9f77c3088e795d8a.jpg

Good deal- Asymmetric lift is nice so you don't have to roll the car forward onto the lift.
My Nussbaum 2 post was asymmetric as well. Just a word of caution- you may still be well served putting some foam tape on the columns so when the inevitable door hits the column, it won't damage the paint.
