I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on my 40x60x15 shop. I have three quotes for similar spec'ed buildings (2 overhead doors, 1 personnel door and insulation).

Option 1 Mueller Bolt Together - http://www.muellerinc.com ~$37k
Very similar to this build. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=152171

Option 2 Turn Key Weld Up - http://www.scherer-built.com ~$40k

Option 3 Turn Key Weld Up - http://www.trmetalbuildings.com ~$40k

I've seen examples from all three potential vendors and all have their pluses and minuses compared to the others.

Any thoughts on bolted vs welded or any other helpful information?

Three great choices. My opinion is that welding will be a more rigid finished product. I'm sure they are certified welders being in a business like this, but its always a good idea to micro manage the process since you are paying for this.

I would go with the bolted.
Just because the holes are pre drilled and will force the erectors to build it square.
A welded frame can have some temptation to say:
“It’s close enough and it’s Miller time. Spark it down.”

Being in DFW, I priced TR as well. I went with Miller's in Burleson. Not Mueller, but Miller's. It is a welded square tubing frame. Very pleased!

I went with a Mueller weld up. In my area the building did not need engineered drawings. You will get that with the bolt up and pay for that in the price. Have you compared the cost for construction b/t the two i.e. weld up and bolt together? Mueller does not build them they just sell the material. Also when you compare different building make sure they offer the same material i.e. 26g not 28g siding.

I did go with a company which Mueller recommended and was happy, they did a great job. My 40x60 was $22k for the metal. $14k to have the builder weld it and fininsh it turn key.
Another item I did not like about bolt togethers were all the cables running on the inside. Just my opinion.

Keep us updated.
