Well... the last thread didn't go down really well, but alas, it's here. I bought a suction gun from my local hardware store, and was entered into the draw for a ~$6k box and tools... and I won! I've got a fair bit of Snap On stuff but I'm not going to say no to all this kit :p

Quite chuffed!

I never heard of Sidchrome, I had to Google it. Are they an Australian tool company?

I do remember your first post, I was a bit skeptical, but I have to say you ****!

Post up some more pics, rightside up. Luckily I'm on an iPad so I just turned it upside down

The far side of crazy.. but sometimes Australia
I never heard of Sidchrome, I had to Google it. Are they an Australian tool company?

They used to be, then they were bought out by Stanley and all the manufacturing got sent to Asia. The big selling point used to be the unconditional warranty, where you walked in, presented the broken tool and walked out with a replacement. Now its not uncommon to wait 4 months before you have a replacement to pick up.

I wouldnt go out and buy that kit but it is a very nice score for a freebie, and worthy of the suckage being bestowed.

You bought a "Suction Gun" and won that; there's some real irony there because you do indeed ****! Now break out the suction gun and clean up all the 'suckage' you've generated on this thread. lol

Thanks guys :)

Why did the photo come through upside down? Apparently iPhones have been having a glitch where they lose their EXIF data and rotate the photos :/ Anyway, I've taken some more of the draws to show you all, but on a proper camera.

The kit has both metric and imperial, right up to 32mm / 1-1/2"! Fortunately I do use right up to 32mm on a few of my Toyotas.

Here's the 1/2 and 3/8 socket sets and ratchets etc

P1010452_zps979276f4.jpg

Ratchet spanners/circlips/pliers etc

P1010453_zps2d750f2e.jpg

A few of the random mechanics pieces (feelers/hook picks/pickup tools etc) and spanners and 1/4 socket sets.

P1010454_zpse7c5bf93.jpg

Top draw is punches, chisels etc.

Spanner set (two draws, one for metric, one imperial)

Combination, open end and offset. There's also an extra spanner roll for the bigger stuff!

P1010455_zps18e9504e.jpg

Hammers, jewellers screwdrivers, tin snips odds and ends... The next draw is all screwdrivers

P1010456_zps84a53064.jpg

Bit set, deep sockets and impacts

P1010457_zps64617872.jpg

P1010459_zps8e772aee.jpg

Extra spanner rolls, flare spanners etc, plus the big spanners that don't fit. Also a smaller torque wrench, which is good timing as I couldn't tension my CVs correctly the other day as my current one is too large!

That about rounds it out! Phew!

Someone mentioned that Stanley bought out Sidchrome...... I love the mis-matched Stanley screwdriver set there.:lol_hitti

But once again, cannot complain, it's free!

What is the COO on these? China? Taiwan? Or is it Australian made? Either way, can you report back to us about the quality?

Congrats!

I got one of those antivibe hammers...damned nice...

And a question: why do Aussies and Brits call wrenches spanners?

Haha, yeah, the box has a few Stanley bits in there, as well as ABW (who do the impact socket line). The COO is from memory Taiwan, whereas about a decade ago, and earlier Sidchrome was all Australian made. I still have a number of old Sidchrome tools around the place, including one of their old 1/2 ratchets, which is one of my favourite ratchets still (purely because it's what I grew up learning with).

That said, my Snap On ratchets still see the most use :p

Like I said, still can't complain. Assuming these are identical quality wise to Stanley, you won't be dissapointed. I own a bunch of Stanley sockets and wrenches and have never rounded, cracked, or warrantied any of them.

Looks like the chisels etc are all still Australian made, and the locking pliers are German made?

Interesting kit!
