It's heeeeere....

Been lurking here a while. Of all the boards I'm on, there is a higher level of discussion and respect among the participants (with some exceptions) than nearly anywhere else. Looking forward to all the comments, criticisms, and humor you care to share. RaceDeck delivery arrived today (those folks are awesome to deal with!) Lots of work to do before the install. Garage is now totally unfinished except for decades of paint on the concrete block walls. We're already small, at 16'x21' and the thought of having to frame out the space is not attractive. Was planning to just use Spax directly to block to hang open shelving and some wheel racks. Still haven't decided on whether to bother with StoreWall type of slot wall system but if I do, it'll just be a few 2'x8' sections in three areas: Car Stuff; Yard/Garden Stuff; Kid Stuff. Planning to put a coat of pavement white paint down on the existing nasty slab and put the RaceDeck FreeFlow right on top. Have no time or patience to go the epoxy route since I've got a 3 1/2 year old who'll be "supervising" the whole process as it is. He LOVES my Bosch SDS hammer drill so there's no chance he'll miss this project. Going to hang three 4-tube 48" T8 fixtures and install a Modine hydronic unit and possibly a vac and call it a day.

So cool.. I love the color and that you're going to let your little boy help you out. It's really cool that you bought an American made product and that you are going to teach some work-ethic to a future generation.

Hi Eric - not to open a hornet's nest of discussion but I'm a big fan of supporting local companies, whether that means across town, or across the country. And for work ethic - well, we're having a bunch of masonry work done and I've had my little guy out there every day with the crew and equipment for three reasons: 1) like any kid, he thinks it's just the coolest thing ever, and 2) l don't want him to wake up some day and think that these things just magically happen. It takes a lot of hard work by a lot of people; 3) he needs to understand and appreciate that EVERYONE works. There are all kinds of people who do all kinds of jobs and nobody is better-than or less-than based on the kind of work they do.

He says good morning to the crew, is on-site all day, jokes w/them and says thank you and good night when they leave. At the end of the day, He feels that he personally had a hand in getting the job done and has a sense of pride and satisfaction that can't be equaled by some toy off the shelf.

Thank you! It's guys like you that made America great! I know that it's harder to work with children than to just let them hang out in front of TV because my kids work too! I know very few parents who take the time to teach their kids these valuable lessons. Most kids DO grow up to believe that these things just magically happen and that they don't have to work. I've had to babysit several employees over the years. This year I had one where I had to explain that it's unacceptable to watch 'Family Guy' on the internet during work hours. He really didn't know that he was doing anything wrong!

Anyway, if enough guys like you raise children with work ethic then we can cut all of these entitlement programs for people who are too lazy to work and want someone else to pay for them to live!!!

FWIW, he's never seen television. I'd like him to be able to read before so then he can choose passive input or active imagination. Heck, everyone thinks I'm completely insane but only time will tell...
