Howdy,

I seem to end up at threads in Garage Journal sometimes after doing searches for things I need to know, so I joined. But now I'm wondering if this joint is for people with real garages. I mean, all I have is a garage. You know, not the kind that services cars for other people, but the kind often stuck on the front or side or next to a house.

Anyway, I'm trying to get through the junk in mine. After four weeks of "large pickup" calls to the disposal company, I can walk into it; not 'through' yet, but 'into'.

There are woodworking tools out here and I have an old 10" Atlas lathe I plan to set up, and a '59 Chevrolet Apache that's almost uncovered now (it's in there). I'll try to post a couple of pictures.

I got the pictures in, but I could swear I've seen others in these forums that didn't need to be shrunk that much. Nothing to see anyway, this is just a 'howdy'.

Welcome to the group. Yes regular old attached garages, detached garages and garage mahals are what this site is all about.

Welcome to GJ! My dad had a '59 GMC fleetside pickup when I was little. It had a 389 Pontiac engine under the hood. Chrome grill and front bumper. It wasn't too rusty as it was a California truck. I wish he would have kept it for me. He sold it for $75 when I was 16.

Thanks for the hellos, txvwnut, captain14, cowboy73, 2nr!

I'm glad to hear we don't have to have a pro shop to be here. I love the term, garage-mahal :)

The Chevy in my garage is a fleetside too. I'll get it uncovered soon, I've got things to do out there. I haven't driven it in so long, and that inline six ran when I stopped it, so I'm a gonna send the gas tank out before trying to turn it over. There might be mud in there.

Mostly I need to make room for another car for my wife, but I'm using that reason to throw away all the stuff my family has had me storing, so there will be vehicle room and working room soon.

So thanks for the welcome,

dunn, hello and welcome to the GJ

All I can see is potential plus..

Mine is a real garage let me tell you, not enough storage and too much stuff.. :dunno:

Can I respectively suggest you put your location in your profile, being a global forum it really helps our members assimilate as you post in other threads.

As always enjoy.

Thanks, 1/2 cup. I had updated my profile with my location and occupation but it wasn't there. Well, it was in the little suggestions Windows 7 pops up when you've already filled out a field, but not in my profile. This time I have made sure to click the 'Save' button and also clicked on 'View as Others See It' and it looks like it's there. (Ok, I paraphrased in quotes.)

Wouldya' mind checking that others can see my location now? (I see it, but I already know where I am!)

I'll get this figured out

Thanks, ajohno.

If anyone happens to see this message, could you please tell me if you see my 'Location' under my avatar, and if this image really looks like it's from a fisheye lens down below the bumper showing the sleek shininess of the truck on display? Or if not that, if the image is about 1024 pixels wide. (I posted a message in another GJ forum and the images came out smaller than other people's.)

I hope this is the place for testing before venturing out in the GJ :)

Thanks,

That truck is gonna make one cool build thread.....post a lot of pictures, please!
And yes, I can see your location is Orange County, CA. The picture does not have a fisheye effect, and it appears to a photo taken from in the right side, front of the truck, slightly above the passenger fender. Wish I had that in my garage, but my garage is full of junk right now.

Thanks, turbowood, pepi, tj, 1/2 Cup, and SuperCat. Looks like I've at least got the location in there!

pepi, the lathe is on the floor, my photography skills just need a lot of work, that's all. There's a stand I've adapted for it in the shop and as soon as I uncover that and finish it, I'll be turning some stuff finally. I'm getting set up to weld so I'll probably get a metal table under it which it deserves, instead of the wood I had planned.

Maybe I shouldn't leave the 'worker' off turbo's name. Sounds dangerous shortened as I wrote it.

Thanks,

Welcome! I have been here a while, but I haven't posted much. I spend most of the time looking at pics and reading about great shops and garages. The thing I take away from this site is the WILLINGNESS of so many people to help each other out. This is a great community. Have fun!

Welcome to the forum.

You will find all styles, forms and sizes of garages/workshops here. ALL are welcome, all are celebrated by people who like their garages, nothing more, nothing less. Don't feel like you have to have a garage-mahal to be a part of the group. Yes there are some that may have a garage-mahal but we all started somewhere and morphed them into what we call ours.

There are a lot of great people here with great ideas and if you were doing google searches and kept getting directed here, then you already know that.

Welcome.

Mike.
