It's time for a "identify this tool"??

It sure doesn't look homemade. The brass is highly polished and the handle is professionally knurled. The opening is 1.67" and when the handle is tightened it compresses to 1.62". OAL is about 5-6".

It looks similar in shape to the nose handle of a hammer drill but much smaller and fancier. It came from a mixed g-sale lot.

What is it?

I have a couple of these also that I picked up somewhere along the way.

I'm not sure of the measurements but they look identical.

I have had NO idea what they are actually used for but I had also thought they looked like drill handles of some sort.

I'll be waiting to hear what they actually are.

It's an adjustable/re-positionable shaft collar with probably a million and one applications.

The threads will have just enough taper to allow the handle to grip a certain diameter shaft/tube, and turn/hold it.

That's the adj. side handle on a 1/2 in air drill I bought 25 years ago .......

Its a handle for an air drill.I have a 1/2'' air drill with a handle like that.The collar goes around the front of the drill and the handle threads on and clamps down.

Not a very good handle, Ive never had one that style that worked well.

The idea is for it to NOT grip the drill barrel too well, so it can slip if the drill binds. Less broken arms/teeth that way
