Is that black line that runs over the power conduit the gas line?? Just the layout of the electric conduit and that black line seems to be in a very precarious place just coming out of the slab like that. It'd be very easy to hit it with something in the garage and make very interesting situation. Just the layout of that stuff is a WTF???

A friend of mine once caused tens of thousands of dollars in water damage to a condo building by drilling a hole into a roof drain pipe while attempting to fix a toilet paper holder...luckily no one figured out it was him.

Joe,

I may come off as a bit of a Nazi in saying it has to be this way, I don't intend to sound that way or to be aggressive. hell if you were local I'd offer to help you redo the line just to know its safe... In my world it has to be to code no exception... I deal with the aftermath of situations like this way to often... I hope you will take the info and do a little investigation on your own...

No worries, I'm not easily offended. I have read and re-read everything you posted it is all good info, thanks again.

Side note......here is the best pic I have at the meter, you can see the poly line on "my side" of the meter. There are several more inches that are covered by snow. I'd say in total about 10-12" are above ground.

That looks to be a riser on that end, look at the metal end where its threaded looks like a crimped on end not a compression fitting.

It's the same way they terminated in the garage.

In garage it goes from poly to a "sharkbite" style fitting to another short section of poly with a crimp fitting on it (same crimp that is at meter). The crimp fitting is 1" NPT and they just put a cap on it. You can see what I'm talking about in this pic.

I see... ya that's no good... the proper riser will go over the plastic gas line for about 3'... My real issue with plastic at the meter end was the UV deterioration of the plastic itself... That may have been permissible at some point in Michigan's gas code but it's sure not the right way to do it today...

Don't even get me started on Sharkbite connectors, there ok for a quick temporary repair but they are not a permanent repair...

You can compare it to the gas companies riser on the supply side of the meter, it would require the same riser to go back underground and come up at the garage. also noticed there's no tracer wire run with the line to the garage...
