I recently saw a very short YouTube video that I found amazingly practical and thought I would share. I am currently cleaning up a pair of B52 and S52 wrenches I bought and wanted to take the head apart just to check the internals. I studied a few of the well known methods and then stumbled onto the one I am going to attempt to describe.
Find yourself a couple of small 1/4” bits. Preferably square bits or you could try Allen or torque bits small enough to fit into the grooves of the ratchet lock ring. Put the 2 bits in a bench vise and space them to fit the ratchet with the ratchet upside down. You should be able to turn the ratchet and loosen the lock ring fairly easy. Just be sure to turn the ratchet CLOCKWISE which will turn the lock ring counter clockwise and it should loosen the ring. I would imagine you can snug it down when you are finished by using the same method but turning the ratchet in the opposite direction.
