J H Williams S-51 Ratchet

Hi all, I found a box with some old tools in it , one piece is a JH Williams 1/2" drive S-51 ratchet that is apart. Looks like someone tryed to fix it , the selector button spins completly around . does any one know how to take it apart The right way ??

Yes, they had special pin spanners to take the lock ring out. If you don't have a spanner that small, try retaining ring pliers. Might try a penetrating oil soak first, those rings can be tight and bend pliers.

If I remember the selector is threaded into the ratchet body so if you can spin the selector all the way around you should be able to unscrew it.
The threaded part of the selector passes through a hole in the pawl and a pin passes through a hole that goes through both of them. If the pin were intact and the spring and ball that powers the pawl were in place, you would not be able to spin the selector .
So yes, it sounds like someone was messing around with that ratchet.
