J-Line 10" Table Saw

I was on CL and I found this cabinet saw. It was sold to a different company, but produced by Yates American. These saws were made for hobbyist, and for school shops. There are parts missing, but this is a long term project which I have all the time in the world to complete. Saw came with a Baldor 1.5 Hp Motor 3400 RPM Single Phase.

I appreciate it. I have other projects ahead of it. So I will sit and ponder on what I am going to do. I think I did good .

Looks like a pretty good find, especially for $40. But, did you get a fence or miter gauge?
I think some fences can be retrofitted.

When the time comes, I will more than like find a fence system to fit it. I am not sure which will work though. But this is a distant project for now.

Great find.

Absolutely no problem you got no old crappy fence w it.

Virtually all the old fences were ****, requiring measuring front and back end everytime you move fence.

Biesemeyer aftermarket fence will work, and are great.

SOOOO simple to use, so quick and accurate.

Definitely worth the money.

Good miter gauges are available aftermarket noo problem as well.

Not machine specific at all, just groove size and style.

Quite universal.

No problem.

As long as the saw itself has all parts, motor mounting, trunnion stuff, etc., you're golden.

As I said, we don't care at all if fence or miter gauge are. Missing.

If your bones are good, you will end up w a $1,000 table saw. Marc

Remember to be aware , if needed, of brass shim stock in differing thousandths thicknesses at like Old school NAPA when you mount your side wings. to achieve an overall flat table.

Cut to order like old school fuel line, couple bucks, You can buy it by the inch, not some damn $40 roll. Marc

What? I can buy complete Unisaws all day long for that kind of money and I'm in the capital of high prices. As often as not they go for 500. The pie-in-the-sky dreamers ask $1200 and they sit on CL for months.

I never said it was worth 1k as is.

Although, as a foundation, what he got was way worth more than $40, IF, IF, one is willing to refurb it.


OP will be putting time, blood, sweat, tears, and money into this.

At that point, he will have a more beautiful, stable, solid, accurate saw than 90% of guys on GJ.

Any decent not beat unisaws that have had the refurb love he will give this go for like a grand, w the Biesemeyer.

What he will end up with will be way better than a typical condition used Unisaw with an original fence.

And try to beat it w anything new.

Try to find what he will end up with for much under $1000.

Needle in haystack.

Yes, he will have invested labor and like $500 for fence and mitre gauge, maybe some bearings, but he will have a superior tool.

Is there a problem here??

Can always buy a shiny new Ryobi or go to HF.

Kinda like buying 1950's Delta drill press as a foundation, and refurbing, comparable new ones are I don't know how much.

That 1950 Delta will last for literally 5 generations or more. Marc

Only thing missing is external, not internal. The Saw runs without any noise from the bearings. piece of the table top broke, which I think can be repaired.The guy didn't want to load it to take it to Virginia and I made the offer because he didn't want to load it to scrap it. He would have gotten less than what I offered.

You must be talking about a mounting flange, photos show table pieces all OK.

I know what you mean. Yes, you can buy a Unisaw for $500+ all day on CL. But there are those out there that people spend $500 and turn around spending a lot more fixing them up.I know I could spend a couple hundred getting a new fence. About $50 on bearings, another $20 on belts. I will have less than $500 all together on my saw after everything is said and done. New unisaws cost a lot more. and not as good of quality of an older Unisaw fixed up.

No need to argue over this. The Unisaws I have seen where the asking price was in the 600-700 range eventually sold for less and they were very good, not perfect. Ones with a rusted top sold for less. Ones with a rolling base, more than the factory wing extensions, and upgraded fences sold for more. Super pristine ones were higher yet but I'm not a "tool polisher" so no premium from me.

My point was that the saw in this thread will never see $1000 in value. As a project it's a great start. Better than 90% of the saws for sale in potential. IDC what you do to it. Embed diamond in the table and it won't be worth more than the diamonds.

And none of us will know anything until the OP puts a dial indicator on the arbor.

Well Saw is going to a new home, since I found a replacement Saw that had viable parts I needed for my Craftsman Cabinet Saw. I picked up the J-Line, because the owner would have scrapped it. I am selling it to a fellow OWWM Member here in Colorado. I of course gave him a family discount since he is in our group.
