Does anyone know of a J2534 Passthrough rental program?

I need to install a new RCM in a Ford and I don't really want to buy a $500 Mongoose cable.

If it matters, I'm in the Northern Virginia area.

Ford has a 72 hour subscription to their service, to make it reasonable.

I called MyAirBags earlier today, they only do crash reset type of work, not repair of bad modules. If you buy a module from them, it'll still require programming.

Plan on keeping that Ford a while? The cable will pay for itself after 2 module replacements.

Has anyone done this with a USB ELM and Forscan? It looks like I may be able to this for just the price of an adapter.

Yes, I plan to keep it as long as it's road worthy. It's an 07 Ranger with 38K miles.

Wow, I thought I was doing well with only 84K on my '07 Ranger! Good luck with yours, I'm hoping to keep mine long enough for FoMoCo to work the bugs out of the new Ranger before I switch....

I mean... you’re basically describing the dealership’s service department, right?

It’s about a 10 minute job to flash a module with IDS. You’ll probably be billed a standard programming charge of 1 labor hour, maybe $125. It’s kinda like renting a J2534.
