Was hoping for some recommendations for a jack and jack stands to support a chevy silverado 1500.

I don't wrench on the truck everyday, but need a set of stands and jack occassionally for changing oil, tire rotations, regular maintenance, etc.

Not sure if I trust harbor freight jack stands, but was looking for some recomendations.

Obviously I would like to keep some money in my pocket, but also understand that quality tools is worth the investment.

Thanks!

If you do some searching you will find numerous threads identical to yours, I have over 20 years in the hydraulic jack repair field and there are so many options out there today and everything is based on "How much you want to spend" Depending on your budget of course if you have to choose between a quality set of Jack stands or a Quality Jack i would choose the jack stands. I know there are recent searchable threads including USJack, Hein Werner and Milwaukee Jack stands and they are all quality Made units. In regards to your vehicle, a 2 ton Jack is suffiecient and be leary of these Heavy Handed Tonnage claims that are growing ever so popular in the IMport hydraulic world.

+1 on first reply. I never skimp on stands or the jack it's self. Check Ebay for quality stands and floor jack. I have jack stands USA made 12 ton and a pair of real heavy 6 ton Hein's that has held cars, trucks ect. off my chest for 20 yrs. My floor jack is a ARCAN that is a twin pump. Please save yourself and buy good stuff!

Thanks, JASTECH

we abuse HF jackstands everyday in our shop, i have them in my service truck, and in my garage.

the only time we have any issues with them is if they get run over by eqiupment.

OTC and lincoln use to have some nice stands

I bought a pair of the Harbor Freight 3 ton jack stands last month.

They are well built, heavy and very sturdy -- much more solid than many other low-end jack stands.

Their problem (for me) is that they have a very deep 'V' in the top. The edges extended beyond the hardened area at the pinch weld, to the un-reinforced area of the floor pan. Buying the very nice rubber tops ($10) might have fixed the problem, but I returned them and got flat-top jack stands elsewhere.

If I had a do-over, I would have bought both the jack stands and jack stand pads and done a trial fit in the parking lot.

the hf jackstands are just fine for me. we use the 6 ton set at the shop and i use the 3 ton at the house with no complaints. i work under heavy duty trucks every day that are held up by hf stands and im still here
i also have good luck with my alum jack from hf but if your mainly working on a truck i would prolly just get the hf 3 ton jack
